        "RockSteady wrote..

lol. what's funny is some guy admitted to cheating and sent you a screenshot."

I was being sarcastic at HIM. Sorry if that didnt come through.

OK, maybe some of you people are confused:

The cheat was installed and tested against several servers running the new VALVE cheat catching protocol. The gentlemen that installed the cheat did it for 1 purpose, and 1 purpose alone, TO TEST IT. How you do you expect anything to be running correctly if you don't test it?!

Now, the reason they said you to the help site (and giving cheaters a second chance):

Valve has to support their customers, I am aware that some people don't buy the game, but most moron cheaters... well let's just say some moron cheaters actually do buy it, or at least by HL and install the MOD of CSTRIKE. Therefore Valve has to help them get it off, so they can enjoy their product.

The site will take work, I mean think about all the different cheats, and how they are changing your systems' configurations (depends on the cheat). Some require you to change files out, some patch into your registry... let's face it, it may take a lot to talk people through an "uninstall your lame arse cheat".

Now onto N.E.R.D. : Your clan has cheats alone mang, I read it on your forums, so maybe you should post a site better than the cs.net one, telling everyone how to remove it, then maybe your site will be hit more... what you think about that one? Good idea no?

If they update every server everytime they update their SECURE information, then Cheaters won't be playing on the SECURE servers. Like it was mentioned earlier, cheaters will play where they can, so normal human beings like ourselves... wait... some of you aren't normal, I can tell. Will be playing together, and won't have to accuse one another of cheating just because a player is truely good at the game.

Remeber just one thing, it's a game, it takes practice, and no one is perfect.

I just got this same error message, and I have no friggen idea why. I have it installed in linux (through wine), and I've been playing fine for almost a year. I've been playing in CS1.4 since 2 hours after release, and this message JUST started occuring. What exactly is the anti-cheat looking for that I don't have? and Yes, I've completely erased the previous install of cs and re-installed/updated. This is CS retail updated to 1.0.0.3 and then to 1.0.0.4

Okay, I've now re-installed my os (slack), wine, and CS1.4, still kicks me. I'm convinced 1.4 is broke, not me. 1.4 must die now.

Does anyone know who I can contact to find out what the anti-cheat checks for, and why it insists on not liking linux?

who knows, but unless valve does something about it you are probably SOL unless you duelboot everyones favorite operating system. go go go, for the good of the city!
HUM i run slack as well with CS 1.4 with wine 2k compiled with GL extentions ,,, still i dont have that problem "weird stuff" man

What the fuck? Why the fuck should they give cheaters a second chance? They should be perma-banned from all servers for one infraction. If you enuff of a tard to download cheats then your ass should be banned. I swear I think valve is retarded, cheats have been killing this game and now they are giving them "chances" GG fucking hackers.
The problem with this is simple. Humans (me discluded of course) are by far, not perfect. I'm sure, one day or another, someone will get that lovely little screen when they, in fact, did not cheat. Banning a non-cheater could be rather annoying to say the least.

As for that rather pathetic URL provided.... I find it extremely laughable, encouraging cheaters to continue to cheat, just not on certain servers.

That would be like the IRS saying We don't care about tax fraud, just so long as we don't know about it.

This is VALVe's game, NOT the cheaters. Running a 3rd party program on your own computer is not illegal, however there are always ways to make owning them illegal. In order to cheat, the creator of the program must have some knowledge of the game engine, which of course, is not going to be (in most cases) free / public knowledge.

There are very fine lines when it comes to cheating games, in this case, most cheating does not actually affect how a server operates, and therefore cannot hold up in a court of law (US), as well as the simple fact that playing on CS servers is free, costing other players nothing, ensuring no gaurentee of absolute fair play.

Right now the cheaters have VALVe, and every other legit player, by the balls. In order to truely stop hacking, VALVe must find a legal standpoint to making using, owning, or distributing cheats illegal. Until then, cheaters will simply find other ways to get around these already weak "anti-cheat" measures, with no fear of true punishment or legal action against them.

                    Edit:

Another good idea for non-cheaters would be to 'test' VALVe and the UA's anti-cheat measures. To find holes in them, no, not for those who truely do want to cause despair, but simply turn over the evidence to those who can change it. Stay as far ahead of the hackers as possible (which at this point in time, it seems the 'anti-hackers' will have a hard time catching up, let alone, staying ahead of cheaters).

Okay, are you running it from a windows partion, or straight wine only, no winblows on the machine? Maybe I can get this figured out...

The new anti cheats only catch the total dumbass people. People just download there new cheats and then the anti-cheat just wastes space anc causes bugs.

                          yes 1.4 is rather buggy

i dont know about anti-cheat bugs but 1.4 is a LOT slower than 1.3 for dialup ppl like me, so i have sympathy for u m8

on a note that is actually valid to the topic:

at least some anti-cheats work, nice to c u can actually stop them from entering servers

A quote from Leon Hartwig from the Steam-forums: "I've already done this for the server update we're going to release in a day or two, though."

So the anti-cheat feature isn't quite done yet. I would suggest to wait and see till Valve officially claims that they've implemented the anti-cheat part of HL.

This means that they'll still got time to catch the new OGC-hacks when released.

And that last option is kinda funny, I bet it ment well. "Well you installed a cheat, and your not l337 enough to remove it, or fix/re-install hl/cs/windows. So please don;t use your cheat and play on a server where the admin is dumb enough to not enable the new built in anti-cheat" well some day when they do turn it on.
