If you where to install and play CS beta 1, then play 1.3, you might not even recognise them as the same game. One of the unique things about CS that keeps people coming back for more is the fact that it DOES change. Part of the challanges, and fun of CS is the ever evolving game itself, and adapting your play skill to match it. I look forward to each and every update, and will continue to do so untill there are 3 or 4 servers left, or CS 2 :)

Look at all the game that have come and gone since CS. Some of them where really good, but they just die out. Every release with CS is something new, and although you may not like it at first...or ever, it is definately for the better. So enjoy the ride while it last, very few games have done what CS has done, and will continue to do.

Counter-Strike, changing for the better since beta 1 :)

As both a server admin, player, and beta tester of CS1.4 before its official release I find the new jump system, walk system, and others changes to be very conflicting. I've played CS since version 5.2 and I feel many players are lossing interest in Counter-Strike. The community enjoys the game because it is fun and competitive. Which is what has always been great about Counter-Strike. Just about the time your fed up of the bugs and cheats. The CS/Valve team makes another release. Fixing old cheats and bugs and adds a couple new features and renewed since of freedom from cheating. Which is why the CS community is so large. Veteran players are made happy so they stay and keep playing. Mean while CS is always finding new players. I really don't think the players hate the new jump and walk system. I think there disappointed and have every right to be. Many of the bugs that where in CS1.3 are still in CS1.4. Cheating is just as bad as it always was. The community wanted new maps, anti cheats, and bug fixes. Instead they've gotten a new jump and walk system, some new whistles and bells for the spectator mode, and an upgraded hltv that I'm sure is rarely used do to either lack of interest or knowledge. We all have our opinions of Counter-Strike and Valve and the community as a whole. I think the better person to ask about the new system would have to be Gooseman. The man who started it all. Giving CS to Valve has already proven to be a mistake. As any big business there only after money. I feel CS needs to go back into the hands of Gooseman. Only Gooseman can give CS back its original luster. Sorry for the long post.

I want to know WHY they thought it necessary to make walknig so slow. I'm not talking about the fast walk, Im talking about WALKING. I used to hold shift, sneak behind people and be amused, etc. Now, I go so goddamn slow there is NO way I can get anywhere stealthily. Plus, if I am not mistaken, the AK was improved. Now, I was a HUGE fan of the ak in 1.3 It was my favourite primary, and I had even learned to long range snipe with it.

Now, I can spray-and-pray... and I headshot people. I actually blinked and stood still for a sec my first game. I got 3 headshots through the stairs in Italy. I actually SAID to my roommate (one of the victims) "Must have been a fluke."

Surely enough, next round I did it AGAIN. 2 Headshots on guys coming up the stairs, then a SINGLE SHOT while jumping at a guy down the tunnel. All headshots.

It's no longer fluke headshots, its fluke NON headshots.

Rizzuh must be getting head from Valve or something, 'cuz he seems to be acting like their little bitch. All he ever does is say "Yay I love 1.4 and if you don't then you must have smaller genitals than me!" and then subtly get rid of anybody who disagrees. As for me, I'm still in shock and unable to think of what to do now that my most favorite multiplayer game of all time has been completely ruined. You know that movie TheVOZ, with the guy cussing his brains out every time he dies? Well, I'm kind of like that, except it's not dying, it's CS dying. "...and there's not a single thing I can do that'll do a damn bit of good." Welcome to hell. Population: j00!!!!1!

Well that makes perfect sense. I am subtlety getting rid of people.

Apparently my plan is failing since April is the biggest month we've ever had and our daily traffic has doubled since a week ago.

The jumping I don't mind too extreme althought I got capped a couple times now as ct in Italy cuz T's get farther through the building than I can now. Its the walking that drives me nuts!! The footsteps kick in too fast and the walk is too slow. The crouch speed is just as fast I think. If I could change just one thing back it would be the walk.

I just realized what bothers me even more... The game has no gun battles anymore. No gunfights. Its point click, someone dies in half a second and its often a headshot. Actually 1.3 had this problem too but not quite as bad. Everyone dies so fast. Might as well all be carrying an awp that shoots like an M4... I think the overall damage needs to be lowered a tad and the headshots cut down. It would be nice to get in a fight that lasts a few seconds for once. I miss fights where you stick and move a bit, maybe duck behind something quick and pop back out then get a couple shots off etc...

                rizzuh, i hate you

BTW, the reason you're getting so much damn traffic is because of all the people too frustrated/bored with CS trying to find some way of acheiving CS nostalgia. So STFU.

The jumping is annoying amd certainly unrealistic, but I am sure I can get used to. Walk speed on the other hand really needs to be ramped up significantly.

I have to agree with Azure, the guns, ESPECIALLY the AK, are just insane now. Jumping was the 1.3 and back way of getting out of the line of fire. Now you get to try and run. It wouldnt be quite as bad is they didnt 'improve' (for some odd reason) the AK. WHY did it need to be improved? I went 20-12 (my avg score) with the AK, with maybe 5 headshots in 1.3. I just played a game where I went 20-7, with 17!!!!! headshots! I wasnt even aiming for them, they just happened! This is turning into a point-in-general-direction-of-enemy-full-auto game. People keep telling me it's a game of aiming now. Where do you see that?

Just a note, CS Nation had a Poll on how the community felt about bunny hopping, the winner was they wanted it removed.. this Poll proves that the CS team and Valve have gone too far.

                      Found the poll..

                      Yes, damn hoppers! 38%

No, jumping should be fair game. 32%

I'll wait until the release to judge. 30%

Ya know rizzuh it would be awesome to get an interview with cliffe or gooseman or some other CS team member(s) on their opinions/reasons for creating CS, their reasoning behind the bigger changes in 1.4, or perhaps their response to the community's opinions on 1.4.

Actually, all that poll proved is that the people who take the time to visit CSN and who also vote in its polls would rather have 1.4's jumping changes removed. CSN's visitors most definitely do not represent the summation of Counterstrike's community, nor do the ones who take time to vote in the poll. Besides, you're making an irrelevant conclusion (logical fallacy) based on the results of the poll, by saying that it means that "...the CS team and Valve have gone too far." What the poll does indicate is that the majority (an 6% difference, I might point out) of people who visit CSN and vote in its polls don't like the jumping changes.

While that's not my intent, what is the problem with that? The poll is to represent what the CS community thinks. If you leave CS, you're no longer part of the community. When you leave America no pollsters are going to ask for your opinions on the president, even if you left because of him.
take notice: take one typical cs1.3 play day and see how many people played that day ...take a day many weeks after CS1.4 was released and then see how many people are playing ... this should be fun!

on a poll at http://www.shrimpwars.be about CS1.4 38% thinks CS1.4 sucks big time; 17% likes the game and the rest struggles in between - go check our poll!

Its common knowledge that statistics can be made to show whatever you want them to.

                            ex.

Do you like CS 1.4's jumping and walking speed?

                            No. 59%

                            Yes. 41%

                            ...and from the last mailbag:

What 'walk' method did you use prior to CS1.4?

                            +speed. 41%

                            +moveup. 38%

                            cl_forwardspeed x. 22%

Isn't it interesting that the percentage of players that didn't use walk exploits exactly matches the percentage of players who say they are happy with the changes? (i.e. The players that are unhappy with the changes match the percentage who exploited bugs in previous versions.) Funny, that...
