Sublyme has justed finished his latest article, which details what the hell the CAL draft league is and why the heck we need it! Here's a tidbit:

Despite not involving any physical activity, the CPL/CAL has always considered professional gaming a sport due to the level of competition involved and skill required to play well. The draft league works very similarly to the way the NFL or NBA draft works. A set of teams are established, each with their own coaches and general managers. They then can pick players based on skill witnessed in pre-draft scrims or demos sent to them. Like in any other sport, the "leaders" of the team do not play in games.

Yes, definitely a great article. I really loved this quote:

"It brings professionalism to the sport. Establishes standards," said [Paul Drew], "and helps bring in sponsors."

Sublyme u said it well that much of the clan scene is dominated with immature team leaders breaking up and forming clans one after another. In my opinion, if CS is going to be played by professionals, then perhaps it's time those "professionals" started acting like it. If you look at the news conference that [3D] held, while they were obviously a bunch of friends, they didn't conduct themselves like professionals but a bunch of guys hanging out. The kind of corporate sponsorship and widespread recognition and respect that CS could have as an international competitive event requires a certain level of conduct. True, when not playing their game or outside of a press conference, etc. pro sports players often act less mature then those of their pre-pubescent fans, but when it's game time or time to chat with the media they're dead serious. Yes I know that this Draft League is amature but the way it's being talked about, it could easily go pro.



Then again, I haven't observed the climate over in Korea where video games are much bigger in the public's eye. I wonder how their players conduct themselves in and outside of their game?

No one knows of NiP will show, it's basically a US tournament.

The Draft idea is great, but this year this shit sucked. They actually had a thing called "rookies" in the profile submition, with an intended 500 people to sign up where the best is drafted you expect anyone below "seasoned veteran/pro" to be drafted? Bleh, oh well. Next year i hope they make different divisions to sign up in or add a shit load more teams.

great article sublyme. I signed up for the draft but will most likely not be picked. Of the 1300+, ~320 will be drafted. That is a 1/4 chance :/. Oh well, I might get drafted. Would be great fun if I was drafted though.
