    worth it?

    My pals over at the TechAngel.com, no relation to that redhead in the back of your English class, have written an article entitled: CS, is it really worth it? It's three paragraphs long -- paragraphs being relative, as each read like a single novel from The Lord of the Rings triology.
    "Is this game worth it," has been my question as of late. I’m no newbie “new player” to this game. I started playing when beta version 6.5 was out. Back then I didn’t know what I was doing. I was always playing on the most populated server’s, with low pingers everywhere. Then after a couple months passed by, I was able to kill “frag” those same people. My weapons of choice became the Desert Eagle and Artic Warfare Magnum. I would ping about 190-200 and play in Canadian servers. I was then able to kill the people that lanned to that server. Eventually those servers shut down so I had to move on, and that I did, to servers where I pinged better on.
    Check it out, or the commas in the filename will eat you alive.

    No, it's not worth reading that.

      CS is worth it, but I wish that the article was better. I think what this guy needs to do is find a good server with people that have a lot of skill. I'm rarely called a cheater anymore, simply because I play with people that are good, and people trust me.

          I think it is. That’s why I wrote it. The problem between determining good players and cheaters is out of hand. People that whine about cheating ruin the gaming experience. Yeah all of you think oh well it's just a newb who cares bla bla bla are fools. I don't like being classified a cheater when I'm not cheating. That's like in school if one kid acted up the whole class had to write 50 paragraphs about not acting up. When only one person was the problem. I was the one that would say screw you teacher I'm not writing for someone else and kick their ass for getting everyone else in trouble. People need to grow up. Stop cheating and stop whining about good players who you think are cheating. There are alot of them out there. CS1.4 will be out soon. I bet 100 bucks there will be accusations of cheaters then too.

            I solved my problem. Joined a clan with cool people, private server. Don't have to worry about any of the usual online drama crap anymore.

                LoL If you don't care don't read it. You must be a cheater if you don't agree, only someone like you wouldn't. I made alot of sense, and as I said before it's the people like you that make things suck.

                  Good reasons to play the game:

                  * For fun

                  Bad reasons to play the game:

                  * Addiction

                  * To get better

                  * Because you are good at it

                  That's my experience with CS. I started at beta 1 and only played on LAN at that point. It was really fun, and it was great when I started to play it over the Internet around beta 3. Then at beta 5 or 6 I started looking for clans and ended up at NiP, and that was the point where I only played to stay good and get better, and it wasn't much fun at all anymore. After 7 months of excessive CS playing I started wondering what the hell I was doing and left the clan and virtually stopped playing CS at all. There are just so many infinitely more stimulating, developing and rewarding things to get better at. I'm a creative and intelligent person and I realized what a shame it was to waste my talent on a stupid game.

                  So to get back to that list on the top, the moment you find yourself playing the game for anything else than for fun, stop it, because it is not worth it.

                          I agree. I myself play CS because I want to get better and because I want to be good at it. Why? Because its fun competing against people. That’s why we have leagues with teams who all want to compete and be the best. It’s just like any sport. Now the cheaters don’t see it this way. Nor do some others but the majority do. And as for me comparing it to a sport... some may disagree. Well I’m not saying you’re an athlete but it is a sport because of the competitive play. Its a sport played by "nerds", "cool people", "fat people", athletic people", ect... I myself was an all-state athlete in Baseball and am not some nerd or fat kid who is no good at sports and just wish’s to be like the "cool" athletic kids who play "real" sports so don’t reply with a flame stating that. I’ve seen it before, just wanted to clear that up. So view my perception as it should be viewed.

                            Let me revise... "now the cheaters don't see it this way"

                            Actually, the ones who join pubs and cheat to piss people off don’t see it this way. Some cheaters join leagues and use this "false skill" to gain an advantage over the rest of the competition.

                              OK correct me if I'm wrong but you said...

                              A=The problem between determining good players and cheaters is out of hand

                              1. "You must be a cheater if you don't agree [with proposition A]."

                              2. You don't agree [with proposition A ].

                              c (3). Therefore, you are a cheater.

                              First of all, that's a blatant ad hominem argument. Deal with people's arguments instead of trying to devalue their character. Besides, your statement "...only someone like you wouldn't." only serves to further devalue their character in light of their response, and ends up being logically worthless.

                              Second of all, look at what you wrote.

                              This game, every since it came out, has completely ruined my life. What little of a life that I have. Playing Counter Strike is the only thing I really do anymore. And yeah that seems sad, sad that I would admit it being sad as well. But I don’t care, I love the game. I just don’t love the people that play the game. Everywhere I go now I’m being called a cheater.
                              If your words indeed represent yourself, then do you realize how much of your own self-worth is caught up in this game?! If you are up in arms over being called a cheater at a computer game, perhaps you should re-evaluate your situation a bit.

                              I completely agree that it's a big problem with CS that legit players are being accused of cheating. But in the end, who really cares?!?! YOU know that you aren't cheating!!! Who cares what other people think?!?!

                              I would say that if others' opinions about your CS skills matter more to yourself than what you know to be true, then perhaps this problem with the CS community should not be your primary concern.
