    CS: CZ Delayed

As everyone and their nanny predicted, CS: CZ has been delayed to Q2, 2002 (a few month delay, not bad). Here's the whole press release from Planet Half-Life.
BELLEVUE, WA (February 12, 2002) - Sierra Entertainment, Inc., a studio of Vivendi Universal Publishing, and Valve, LLC today announced a Q2 2002 release for Counter-Strike: Condition Zero(tm), an extensive new product that introduces single player and co-op gameplay modes to the number-one online action game in the world*.

A new stand-alone product, Counter-Strike: Condition Zero (CS:CZ) extends the award-winning Counter-Strike multiplayer game with new maps, weapons and more, while simultaneously introducing new technologies, an extensive single player campaign, and cooperative play.

Texas-based Gearbox Software is co-developing CS:CZ with Valve - the same partnership that produced the best selling Half-Life: Opposing Force and Half-Life: Blue Shift SKUs. For CS:CZ, Gearbox has created an extensive single player campaign that includes over two dozen new missions and takes players to several fictitious regions of conflict around the globe. In addition to the single player campaign, players will be able to set up cooperative games via Internet and LAN connections.

Counter-Strike(tm) is the number-one online action game in the world. After a one-year public Beta, Counter-Strike was commercially released in Fall 2000. It has sold over one million copies worldwide, been named Game of the Year by several gaming publications, and is the headliner at competitive gaming tournaments around the world.

"Gamers of all kinds should get very excited about CS:CZ - it's by far the most complete and addictive action experience seen to date," said Adam Fossa, brand manager for Sierra Entertainment. "The robust single player experience will introduce an extremely compelling new style of action gaming. This, combined with the introduction of new cooperative gameplay modes and advanced engine technology, plus new multiplayer weapons, maps and models, make Counter-Strike: Condition Zero an incredible new offering for the most popular online action game of all time."

"Working with members of the original team to produce CS:CZ has been an incredible experience for Gearbox," said Randy Pitchford, president and director of Gearbox Software. "As very active CS players, we understand the challenge and care needed to create a compelling single player experience. Counter-Strike: Condition Zero represents a new and complete collection of all Counter-Strike gameplay, and we're very much looking to forward to unleashing it to the community."

    CS: CZ Delayed

Not another delay? Yup, Gameplay's Release Radar has informed its suscribers today via their newsletter that Counter-Strike: Condition Zero has been delayed until March 2003. Check out the newsletter:
We are contacting you today to inform you that the release date for Counter-Strike Condition Zero has been changed by its publisher to (30/03/03). Gameplay apologises for this delay in dispatching your item.
    The wait continues...

Update: UKT has confirmed this with Vivendi (Sierra's parent company):
Just so you are aware Counter Strike Condition Zero has now been slipped out of the year, the new date is Q1 2003.
Please be advised that even Vivendi could be wrong about this. Gearbox still has the final say on the release date.

You ever wonder how much of quotes people say is just crap their feeding the press, and how much is real honest opinion? I'm not trying to bash anyone quoted in this article, I'm just musing a bit.

                      Slipped? It's slipped?

Ok, for a release date to slip, you need an original date, and a new date. I don't ever recall [maybe it's me getting old] a PrRel giving a date as certain as this one - all I can remember are rough estimates, which hardly constitute as a date from which something can slip.

Yeah, I'm bitching. But along with "TFC2" and "high pingers cause lag - kick them!", this is another thing that p*sses me off. Bye.

I agree. TFC2 has been delayed for a eternity, my guess is that Valve are too "afraid" of the fact that CS has stolen all attention away from TFC2, and that people don't want a class-based system (soldier, marine, berserker, sniper, medic, ect.) anymore. It's (how should I put this?) - old?

Simply put - they aren't sure if TFC2 will be as successful as it would've been 3 years ago. Before CS was as good as it is today.

My point was that there is no such thing as "TFC2". It's Team Fortress II. The correct abbreviation is "TF2". "Team Fortress Classic 2" doesn't exist.

Team Fortress II is the 'sequel' (bad word choice) to Team Fortress. Team Fortress Classic was a conversion of the original Team Fortress from QuakeWorld to Half-Life. Hence the 'Classic' part of the name.

                          If anyone mentions TFC2 again I will explode. IT IS TF2. TF2. TF2. TF2. TF2. TF2. TF2. TF2. TF2. TF2. TF2. TF2. TF2. TF2. TF2. TF2. TF2. TF2. Team Fortress 2.

                          Get it? Good.

Valve do things in their own time, and rightly so. Half-life was delayed for a year and it came out to be one of the best games of all time.

I'm sure you'd rather have a better, more reliable and stable game than one out sooner.

Oddly enough, I have more faith in Valve + TF2 than I do in, say, 3DR and DNF.

I guess its seeing that Valve does something "while" developing TF2 - like patching CS, producing new products like CS:CZ, steam beta, voice tech..

Valve's activity "on the side" has helped me forgive the neverending status of TF2, and I now wait patiently - perhaps not furiously masturbating over screenshots (like some diehard fans of DNF :) but i'm also not constantly laughing and slagging on it :)
