Lets start a poll to have them put back into the next beta
Counter-Strike is no longer in beta. But ya, those little animations were cool but I'm not losing any sleep over the fact that they're gone. BFD.

Tracker and the anti-cheat aren't related to Steam.

What Valve is trying to do with Steam, in my opinion, is to cut Sierra out of the loop and make more money for themselves. But it's a good idea, imagine being able to Steam TF2 before it hits store shelves. I'd do it, just because I'm impatient.
It makes sense really. Just this month there was an article in Edge (british comp mag) about how high street retailers in the Uk (ie. Electronics Boutique) charge about £10000 just to put a game on their shelves, it's pretty crazy.

I'm wondering how Valve are exactly gonna market distribute steam before they use it to sell games or something...? My first thought was that if they release a game and put it on steam they'll need a hell of a lot of servers or a situation like a CS release will take them down... but then they could regulate the amount of downloads, hmm.

Neway, it also ties in with the big Internet Highway dream - renting and buying media to download over a broadband connection...

Steam? I can't afford that?!? Neither can i afford a broadband connection......Think of all the little people! ( 56kers ) Valve should spend the money that they get from 'Steam' and give people like me a better internet connection...now thats an idea i like!

This sux...steam's awesome! They can't take it out! And for you 56kers, it's not like they're sitting up there "We're going to cut the non-high speeders out", but i mean, even STARCRAFT is gettin' bad w/ 56kers ya know? They just can't handle playin' decent games anymore, and that's not our fault

Cable doesn't run down my street and ADSL is too expensive to get (approx $100+ per month) in australia

this is such bullshit, just another of vavles lame attempts to delay cheat protection. first we got the useless (and not working) voice communication and now this!

they suck badly and should be punished for it.

btw the speed of the ADSL is 2,5mbit down and 0,768 mbit up :)

My area isn't cabled either and BT still haven't upgraded the local phone exchange, (which is only 600m from my house.) FYI - fully 40% of the UK cannot get cable or adsl.

It's like the fucking Dark Ages here... D-:
