you are both right of course but the commenters above me compared the amd 1.4 and the p4 2 ghz. their conclusion was that the 1.4 is better than the pentium. i posted the links to show that they were wrong because the p4 2ghz is (at least slightly) better than the athlon 1.4 ghz. i prefer amd's processors too but most people treat pentiums processors as if they were made by cyrix.



oh and ErKnowledge, i recommend to throw that geforce 2 mx out of your window immediately.

I don't see what all the fuss is about your computer. I have no problem playing CS on this set up. I have extensively tweaked my modem, but most of my CS settings are default. Obviously I can't do much when lag grenades come around, but I look at it this way, "Could I do anything if there was a smoke grenade in front of my in real life anyway?" so I don't complain too much.



I dunno, I'm happy playing CS on my system. I do well enough, usually with an even kill to death ratio when playing with moderately skilled player, if not over.bai~

I know the Athlon outperforms the P4 in most tests and programs, but unfortunately Dell are morons who only build intel machines, and I couldn't build my own because I feel i dont have enough experience. I woulda waited, but you try putting up with a state of the crap emonster. My configs are as follows...

Since i'm a 56ker, my ping goes anywhere from 190ms (best) - 450ms(worst), depending on the server and time of day. I usually end up around 300 something. I've noticed that CS takes alot longer to load on my XP machine than it took to load up on my 98 SE, and will ocassionaly get these wsaeintr (wsaesomething) errors every now and then, and then my internet will disconnect, i blame it on the shit shod job microsoft did with the winsock stuff in XP, does anyone else have this problem?



Also, the GeForce 3 is outperformed by the ATI Radeon, that is if you play it a 640x480 resolution. GeForce dominates at res's above 800x600 with 32 bit textures.

I only have a 17" Sony CRT Flat Screen monitor, so playing at 1280x1024 yields 60hz refresh, unplayable for me (my eyes, they bleed, they bleed!) so I play at 1024x768. Geforce3 isn't actually too overkill for today's games like RTCW, which can get bogged down. I play CS though at 1024x768 with 4x AA and it looks great.

I upgraded recently to a 1Ghz Athalon, GeForce3 Ti200, and switched to DDR...and damn! It really is a different game when you have good hardware. Anyway, this may be a stupid question...but how do you find what fps you are getting? Just curious.

hmm, i cant remember where i read it but there where some recent unreal2 benchmarks done and teh radeon beat the geforce in every res and by a wider marigin at higher res'

Nice article Luft. Hey, I'm also thinking of buying a new mouse, which one should I get? I get frustrated cause everyone tells me different things. I've talked to some top swedish CS players and they all tell me to go MS, some of them tell me to get the MS Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 (which NiP uses) :) and some other friends of mine wanted to kill me for even considering buying an MS mouse and told me to buy a logitech one.. and that's also a bit tempting, with their new dual optical mouse. But someone told me that logitech's new mouses were a bit buggy or something.. so I dunno what mouse to buy, lol.

At 1024X768 I get 99 FPS if there is no one on screen. But the instant someone is in view it drops to 42. My FPS is NEVER anything besides 42 or 99, wtf?!?! With my system I shouldn't have to worry about FPS.

i got a Amd Athlon 1.2, 374mb 133sdram and a voodoo 3 2000,



I get 100fps and the lowest it drops to in a gun battle is 70fps even with about 12 guys on the screen,



Always make sure u have the best drivers and tweak CS so u get best possible gameplay,
