Counter-Strike.net has been updated with two new screenshots of CS 1.4's new map, de_chateau, straight from Valve and the official CS texture artists.



Cliffe also posts word of the official CS guide. You can buy it from Amazon.com, having the bonus of supporting CS-Nation with a few bucks.



Finally, the official Condition Zero is now up. There's not much, besides two new shots which I'll add to our section later -- on that topic, our section was also mentioned by cleof.

i bought the book, and i feel really bad saying this but:



it's a stinker.



i wanted it to be good - the X3 guys are likeable and i would love for this book to do well, so that there will be more CS books. but it's just a bad job done by the publisher.



the first 45 pages are all newbie material - how to join a game, what settings in your config.cfg to tweak, what the different weapons are. then there were 5 pages of interesting catch-all strategies but every experienced player knows them all



then there were 150 (!) pages of VERY VERY detailed strategies for 6 or 8 of the default maps, like cbble, italy, train, dust, assault, estate, and i forget which others. per map they have:

2 pages of strategies for CT on public server

2 pages of strategies for T on public server

2 pages of strategies for CT on private server

2 pages of strategies for CT on private server



this info was interesting but hard to understand (go left past the crate under the balcony but turn around and watch for enemies by the roof - huh??)



i guess if your clan is getting its ass kicked on matches, and you still play matches on these maps, then maybe it's worth it. but that's about the only reason to get the book that i can think of.



plus it lacked good editing. there were several typing and layout mistakes, and there were even a few words still in german (the language it was originally published under)

I really didn't expect that guide to have anything useful for anyone who has been playing the game awhile, but typographical and layout errors are UNACCEPTABLE for a book that is being sold for 19.99. That is pathetic.

I think that book is bull shit! It's stupid to read about commands in a book. I know almost all of them! And prof gamers know them too.

nice camo work on the face and uniform, therefore its a good skin overall for ones that prefer these types of skins. although there are some parts that seem a bit bland and could have used more attention to detail (the vest for example), its a great skin regardless. of course, finding a map to match this with that is played regularly on servers is another factor in utilizing the skin. then again, one can easily download custom textures for maps or even create a set for him/herself...
