If someone uploads it to an FTP and shares it, they are violating valve's software agreement. They would be subject to all sorts of copyright infringments and possibly something a bit more serious, such as a lawsuit.

All I gotta say is I signed up through a link here at CS nation, and I signed up no later than a day from when the story was posted....and geuss what, I got the e-mail, replied and I am playing CS 1.4 right now....thats right....I have it, I am playing it and it is friggin cool....the rocket launcher is awesome, too bad it is single shot....and the m60 rocks....nothing like 50 rounds down range with pin point accuracy and having 50 more in the clip....
And by the way, I just made all this up, I bet all you were salavating too.....rofl....
On a serious note...I did sign up and I recieved an e-mail...now they said it will be 1 to 2 weeks before they send us another e-mail letting us know where to get it from....sorry guys but I take the EULA seriously (only if the game is worth the EULA and Half-Life is definately worth it), you won't get the patch from me....Comment

wtf is rizzuh talking about? Is he gonna tattle on valve about all the people who forwarded their emails? I think it's natural to be excited about it - hell, how many things have you done today that violate somebody's EULA? It's not like they're ripping the software and posting it to ftp - we went through that little fiasco with 1.3!
