The current political climate has zilch to do with Valves corprate policy.

I don't mean to see things that aren't there and its fair to say that Valves corporate policy definately is completely unrelated. But, and there is a but, their reason is a direct copy, but I'm just repeating myself here.

Valve just doesn't want to give away the details of their project so any hackers could work some counter-offensive together.

This is the point that leads me to make the association between the two totally different contexts, while very much an arguable reason in the context of politics, it should not be seen as a valid reason at all in the context of software development in the slightest.



The information asked for by the community simply cannot be used to hack the software before it is released. Its complete bullshit. Their answer is a flat lie. I'm a third year software engineering student, I still don't know much but I cannot realisticly see someone hacking code (that is WRITING AND MODIFYING CODE) that they don't have access to beyond speculation.

The new philosophy on dealing with cheaters is for the team to eliminate any hacks that come out just hours or a couple of days after their release, thereby making it a waste of time for cheaters to spend the time and effort to craft new hacks.

This is the next piece of crap from the same page. Valve talks about fixing hacks immediately to make it a waste of time for hackers to bother with. lol. If anything is a waste of time its writing a hack for code you have never seen based upon information subject to change which offers no actual insight into the structure of the code. All these contradictions from Valve and all with the assumption that the consumer is a moron from an industry which sorely needs more professionality. I only hoped we could expect a higher level of professionality from a company that has such a high level of community support at least in terms of using their products.



Message to Valve: Can the bullshit and give the community their due. fuc...silly chaps.

But its not "hacking" the actual code they are worried about. Depending on the method valve uses to detect cheats, a hacker could then start to analyze how the engine works and start to work around that.
