(its a great book tho... you people should consider reading it) and you may think you can tell the diference between 24 fps and 60... but you can't.... its all pre-determined in your head that you know you can see a difference so your brain interprets it as a difference, and about the movie 24fps and a video game.. what difference is it to the human eye.... thats right, none. and yes, the human eye can tell the difference between 20 fps and 24, 15 fps and 24, 9 fps and 24 but after 24... our eye sees the same smooth transition between frames/scenes, even if the frames were to be projected at 200 fps... 24 is just the magical number christ decided to pull out of his magical arse

It's all about latency. 24fps does not have the same latency as 100fps. Ideally, the 100fps machine would update about 4 time quicker.



And 30hz/24hz passes because of motion blur. If PC games had motion blur they could be smoother at lower fps. If PC games had motion blur, you'd get less fps.

It's called "persistence of vision", and Riz is right - it's only the motion blurring in films (which run at 24fps) that allow us to perceive unbroken movement. Truth is you CAN see the difference. Try adjusting your monitor setting to around 60hz (60 fps) and you'll see a difference from your current setting (probably "optimal", and probably in the 75-85hz range).
