    CPL Pre-Champ Roundup

    Championship Match - later today

NiP, Sweden, defeated X3, US, in the Upper Bracket Finals, 7-5 and 6-1 on X3's strong map, de_train. NiP is going to the Championship match. X3 still has a chance to make it to the Championship match, by beating the Lower Bracket winner, mTw. They have to beat mTw and then defeat NiP twice to be crowned champs. I don't think it'll happen, but here's to hoping.

Recap: NiP is going to the Championship Match, the winner of the "Consolation Finals", X3 vs mTw, will face off with them.

Update - X3 will face NiP!

Clan X3 will face off with NiP in the Championship Match, after X3 defeated strong clan mTw with a score of 7-5 and 6-4 on de_train. Can X3 beat NiP twice and win the CPL World Championship event? Will NiP dominate X3 again and secure a victory for the Europeons? Who's stronger on de_nuke? Coverage to follow...

    Lower Bracket

mTw won the lower bracket, defeating TSO and Massive Attack.

Meanwhile, some nice stories are unfolding in the lower brackets. Danish clan Spirit of Amiga faced off with American Domain of Pain. SoA didn't know the map they were set to play, so DoP let them play on de_nuke. DoP lost and was seated in 8th place, while SoA was in 7th place. Being thankful to DoP, SoA gave up their prize money and took the DoP spot.

Infernum made it pretty far. They placed 5th and played some amazing games for a clan that was seeded so low, compared to the other contenders they faught. I hope to see Infernum place higher at the next world championship CPL event.

    Commentary

The HLTV fiasco was pretty insane. Speakeasy waited far too long to release a Press Release concerning their so-called network. They also had no central site as to where we could view specific games, or at least I couldn't find it. Moreover, their HLTV servers titles didn't give match names. I'm glad to see that the technology is being put to use, but it was pretty much a failure (unless you work at CS Extreme, whose HLTV guide most be getting millions of views). Combine that with the fact that HLTV itself generally doesn't have much polish and is prone to svc_bad errors on each connect, this isn't the best display of the technology. Maybe next time.
