Erik from Valve sent out a notice on the hlds linux mailing list that the cheating we all are affected by will be, hopefully, ambushed with an upcoming HL release. Here are the exact words:
We're working now on our own anti-cheating technology now. It's our highest priority for the next Half-Life engine release.Part of me says "finally!", part of me says "woohoo!", but either way this cheating issue is likely to be addressed by Valve taking it head on. Cheating won't just go away, but with official support, it's likely to be more difficult and not worth it. Thanks to Lestat for sending us the info.
