    GameSpy Rant

The BackBurner has put up an article about the troubles of getting CS Radio files. Well, no, it's not really just about CS Radio:
I could see the problem if this "Personal Server" crap came up on a small time game file server, because its hard running your own network (believe us, we know), but maybe, just maybe, you'd think a multi-multi-millon hit corporate empire might be able to keep fast servers running for file downloads? It's once again a demostration at just how much GameSpy is the MicroSoft of the gaming industry. Expand, multiply, buy up opposition or run it out of town. Throw money at problems to make them go away. Produce low quality crappy programs that are buggy and cause general protection faults and blue screens, and yet have enough money to promote them as fantastic and manage to sell them to poor suckers before they realise how low-grade it is.
    More GameSpy bashing here.

The rant touches on a few good points (well, not really), but mostly it is about expecting something for nothing. You're a gamer so you magically deserve free bandwidth? Give me a break.

I really, really, REALLY, REALLY don't like GameSpy as a company, but I liked their line system and I even think FilePlanet is a good service. Long story short, I actually signed up for a "personal server" and I couldn't be more pleased with the service. Would I rather have had it for free? Sure, but I accept that GameSpy needs to make a profit somehow. The dot-com boom is over, music actually costs money, and the world isn't at your service. Grow up.

And before someone points it out: yes we are hosted by GameSpy, no they don't pay us.
