Today is Counter-Strike's second birthday!! Hooray!!!
Congratulations CS team, Valve, and all you lovers out there in the community.
CS has changed quite a lot from the early days. 400 peak players has exploded into sixty thousand peak players a night, and a small gem has ballooned into a huge phenomenon. Counter-Strike is the perfect story of a self-made man, rather, a self-made game.
Counter-Strike didn't have a huge marketing team behind it at first, it had cliffe. CS didn't have a publisher, it had download sites. CS didn't have hype, it had material.
CS was never made into what it was because of some company, Counter-Strike's success was founded in the roots of the Half-Life community and has perched itself into the discussions of the so-called gaming gods.
Us here at CS-Nation can only help but feel that this is only the beginning. Even me, the most crazed CS fan in the world, never expected this. We used to make a huge fuss about a link on the back page of PCGamer, and now we overlook entire articles in that very publication. With Counter-Strike: Condition Zero and CS2 around the (long and twisted) corner, I'm fairly confident that the masses won't stop pouring into CS for quite a while.
Now some of you may be wondering where our CS Year 2 article is, since we posted a 1st year one last time around. Well you guys will have to wait a bit, mostly because I'm sure a couple of sites out there will have their own little features about CS' second birthday, but also important is the fact that we're working hard on the new CS-Nation! I didn't want to produce an article that wasn't a good read, so you guys will have to wait until CS-Nation's 2nd birthday for the article to be up and running. Trust me, with the new article format and site, it'll be worth the wait.
Oh and in case you're wondering, I am indeed the worst beta 1 veteran in the world.
