Go Slayer!Recently the mod community has gone through a realism craze brought about by the popularity of a little mod called Counter-Strike. It now seems like everyone is creating their own Counter-Strike clone and originality in the mod community seems to be on its way out. This situation is highly reminiscent of the "Doom clones" that appeared shortly after that game became a hit. Clones are usually considered a bad thing in the gaming community but there are cases when they can be far better than the original.
Anyway back to the realism mods...Counter-Strike seems to have spawned many imitators, and they are not confined merely to the Half-Life engine. It seems like there is a realism mod for almost every FPS out now.
But do these imitators even do justice to Counter-Strike? Well at lease one does. Its a mod for Unreal Tournament called Tactical Operations. With the release of version 1.6 this mod has become a serious alternative to Counter-Strike.
