    Counter-Strike FAQ

CS-Nation has just launched an exciting new addition to our expansive archive of Counter-Strike information, a FAQ! Started by Exo, touched up by phrozen, updated for 1.6 by NightHawk, and finally completed by myself, it prides itself in a history as luscious as Condition Zero.

Unlike our current FAQ/tech page this focuses on a much broader range of often non-technical issues dealing directly with playing Counter-Strike. So while you wont find the solutions to the latest Steam bug, you can get help fast with anything from installing custom skins to figuring out what everyone means when they are talking about SteamIDs.

Have a look! If you spot any errors/invalid information, or know of something important we missed, throw us an e-mail and we'll get right on it! For more technical support drop by our Tech Support forums.

how do custom sprays work in cs 1.6?

                    ------------------------------------

The same way they do in CS 1.5! However, pdecal.wad is now known as tempdecal.wad. So in your cstrike directory you'll need to rename it or remake it.
Don't you have to delete your custom.hpk files for them to work, or was that fixed? Ditto for read protecting them. I also thought you might need to duplicate the file and have both pldecal and tempdecal.

In fact, just stating "the same way they do in CS 1.5" is a bit "anti-faq". Wouldn't an explanation be more useful? I'd be happy to write you one *takes bait*

I have had custom sprays disabled along with cl_allowdownload set to 0 since at least CS 1.3 so i'm out of the loop.

The FAQ entry for CS 1.6 sprays assumes the user has a custom spray file ready to go but cannot figure out why it's not showing up in CS 1.6 as it did in CS 1.5.

If they don't there are several links at the bottom to spray/wad tutorials.

But yeah, i was under the impression that custom sprays worked exactly as they do in 1.5 but the file was renamed. If this is wrong let me know.

Yea, it was the same until a recent(ish) steam update a few months ago.

Now (I'm open to corrections) I believe the following applies:

Take your pldecal.wad, duplicate it as tempdecal.wad

Read protect both files, and put them in /cstrike

Delete custom.hpk and custom2.hpk in your /cstrike folder. (1 or both files may exist).

                        And you're good :)

Taking a look at the top rated hostage skin, they installed the hostage sounds to sound/hostage/, but you say sound/radio/ is where all radio and hostage sounds go. I was wondering which one is right.
