Checkout and stuff! When Counter-Strike was released a little over a year ago, it proved an immediate success with early adopters. Its combination of fast gameplay, real-world guns, terrorist versus counter-terrorist teamplay, top-notch maps and unique purchasing system struck a nerve with gamers and initiated a hopeless addiction, of which I still proudly suffer. As Counter-Strike matured, the game became more refined and polished, culminating in the latest version which is just about as close to perfection as one could hope for. If there's a better map than CS-Italy in any retail game, I certainly haven't seen it. If there's a better effect than a billowing smoke-grenade choking a hallway, it has escaped me. But these elements do not an addiction make. There's something more to Counter-Strike that isn't so obvious.
