The police has seized his passport so he can't get away.
I noticed the above sounds a bit phony... I forgot to mention that additionally he has to report to the police in regular intervals, so they *know* he didn't get away

The sad part was, I have a feeling these guys didn't really realize wtf they truly did until after they did it, wow gfg, delay one of the best games off-all time that was about to come out a few months later ;o
And whats even more disturbing is that it was really a 3 man thing, the main german guy hacked valve, while these other 2 ppl (which are presumably from the US & Austrailia) packaged it and sent it to ftps back in October - Winter period. In my opinion, those 2 other guys should get f#!@ed for that too, not just the hacker.
Distribution anyone ?Comment

Thanks for the better translation, Tek. :)K-16 wrote..
Crackers only, eh? So are you implying that only the white man can perform illegal acts, where as all other nations are free to do whatever they want?!?
Wait, I'm confused. Hackers can do illegal things? I thought this was limited to crackers only? (And I wonder why they would arrest the guy and then release him?)
Okay, so in reality you should be aware that "hacker" in common usage means "cracker" and not just "programmer."xlokix wrote..
Humans are social creatures. Most criminals get caught because they brag about what they've done, because really, who could pull off a heist like this and not tell anyone? Guys brag about stuff, and that's what leads to people being caught. Either way, though, it's likely quite hard to cover your tracks completely with something this large.
this guys biggest problem was he didn't cover up his dirty work well enough.
On a side note, though, where are all the HL2 fans that were claiming they were going to stab the hacker in the face with a chainsaw if they ever found out who it was? :) It's funny how people express this rage that they never remotely plan on actually ever carrying out...Comment

well valve said the theft itself didn't delay the game from its original sept 30th release date. They said when the time rolled around, the game just wasn't done. I would sympathize with the hackz0r if he hadn't posted leaked hl2 versions, but if he maby just changed valves desktop/homepage to www.ohnoes.org or something non destructive. that would be a wake up call to not store your game on a machine accessible over the internet. it would kinda be hard not to brag, i hax0rd valve...Comment
