    server stuff

Woohoo! We have made some major updates here at Counter-Server (The Official Counter-Strike Server Admin Resource) to coincide with the recent release of Counter-Strike v6.5 beta.

    1) I have had my nose to the Perl grindstone lately, and decided to practice some of my skills here at Counter-Server. I wound up writing 3 scripts to help out you admins, especially you newbies, with creating your command line, server.cfg, and mapcycle.txt files. I will add a few more scripts as I can find more time, but for now, these should tide you over as they cover all the necessary basics to get your server running. They are very easy to use - let me know what you think. So, go check out my new AutoConfig Editors!

    2) Paco has updated the Basic Linux Server Setup Guide. Now all you Linus admins quit freaking out and sending us email about broken links and everything being outdated! :)

    3) Kendokan has written up a new Linux column Using screen With Linux describing what screen is and the in's and out's of its use. Check it out - it's a good read.

    4) For those of you who don't know about them yet, Counter-Server has recently opened its doors to their own Counter-Server Forums, complete with The Admin Connection (to help server jockeys find rcon admins easier), Server Ops Forums (a supplement to the CS.net Server Op Forum for the more serious admins), and forums for the hosted sites.

    5) And speaking of hosted sites, be sure to check out our hosted sites for some of the best server admin related tools. Log_Anal: Excellent stats package. Command Central: Superb for getting your server up and running - even has a scheduler to run your server when you are away. hlmonitor: A kick ass app to run your server - includes map voting, auto-kicking & banning of TKs, spam controls, etc.

So, go fix yourself a drink and start reading!
