Good question! I can think of a few articles that I thought were poor in quality. What happens when I post them? Everyone loves 'em, so clearly my judgment isn't all that great.



Secondly I never actually read through the entire article (I faced the same problem as everyone else, it was so boring and pretentious at the start). Someone else had read through it, and brought up the concerns but this was a night before publishing and I wasn't about to wade through the article and make it more readable.



I have posted content without reading it before, btw (one of Gorktic's articles comes to mind) and the reaction always turns out well. Someone else edits the features, not me.

yeah cept that wasn't doc's intention. he wanted to get away with it, my guess is if he hadn't been caught he would have done it again so everyone who reads csn would have kept on praising him. he keeps saying it was a big joke but even after the article had moved down in the news he didn't say anything. a joke my ass, thats an easy way out. works better than saying "I'm sorry, I thought I could get away with blatantly plagiarizing an article that was general enough to almost work for counter strike."

Agreed mug. He's trying to play it off and people are saying oh wow you sure got me doc! WELL OF COURSE HE FUCKING GOT YOU. I mean comeon you would EXPECT to find an article about CS on a CS site so you pretty much always assume all content is pertaining to CS.

I do think a few of you are overreacting. Yeah, I thought it was a serious article, and yeah, I thought DocUK played waaay too much chess. But I also figured that with all the action-oriented articles we tend to see, something a little overboard on the intellectual aspects of the game was perhaps due. I still think so, despite getting tricked by this article.



For those who think DocUK wasn't doing this for fun, I disagree. You know what, he might have never mentioned it, and just laughed in the privacy of his own home at how many people he just fooled. Everybody loves being the propagator of pranks, but not too many people enjoy being the brunt of them.



I don't think DocUK's intention was to try to appear intellectual, or that his plagerism was intended as such. However, this was really bad judgement on his behalf, and as a result he's permanently off the team, and banned for a week. I know where DocUK's coming from, though, and when I was 13-14 years old, I probably would have been dumb enough to try the same prank.



I think that's why I didn't become a moderator in any discussion areas until I was 20 and somewhat more mature. Unfortunately DocUK hasn't reached a high level of maturity yet, but time will help that. Lots of time where he's not a CSN team member. Try to not be too mad at him, okay?



As far as all of this "controling the center" business... I disagreed with it initially, but found times where this is very true at the same time, so it seemed quite relevant.



In de_dust... you really have to control the center inside area to win as CT's. In de_dust2, you need teams at both sites, but both having a guy looking toward the middle area, too, so you don't get swarmed from multiple directions. On de_aztec, you have to control the areas near the double doors. On cs_italy I was thinking of the middle as the center stairs to the T side, which the CT's can quickly swarm if you don't control it. I could go on and on listing examples of where control of the center seems critical. Granted, I could also name very notable examples where the center is a killing field that nobody wants to be in, but the point remains.



Yeah, DocUK tried to fool us all for his personal entertainment, and with many of us he succeeded, even if we did rip aspects of "his" article to shreds. But what DocUK didn't intend was to accidentally post an article that really did contain some valid CS strategy, if you think about it much.



So on that note, farewell to DocUK as a CSN team member, too bad you had to end it this way.

nighthawk i think if you continue to say that it was just a joke its going to encourage someone to try it again. the fact that that center bs actually works in some situations is coincidental, just because you have someone on look out in the center of a map doesn't mean you need to 'control it'. i'm not over-reacting about it, but put this in another situation. say he did this in school and a lot of classmates said his article was very stimulating and interesting and then found out that it was just some stolen crap, that would give him the perfect excuse to laugh at them and say it was just a joke, but that doesn't take away from what he did, and if he was at a college...... he would be expelled. thats how serious other places take plagiarism.

he stole an article from a checkers site... oh no lets all gripe about how bad of a person he is for this terrible deed! its really not that big of a deal if you ask me. i find it quite humorous that he was able to pull this off for so long he had me fooled but i really don't think its that big of a deal. but thats just my opinion i know some people will agree and some people will disagree

How did the checker site figure this out... like really i wouldn't think the checker would figure this out. I don't think he really goes to checker sites that often. probably just saw it then was like hmm this could be funny and made it a CS strat. I also think this was a joke or he just got bored and didn't care what happed. a lot of ppl said he did a good job in the comments then seeing them just turn right around and say yeah i knew it was fake all along is funny. well my hat goes off to DocUK for just doing that planed or not i don't care cus it made me laugh for a while. and him getting fired for it is under stand able. i find what mugwamp is saying is some what crap because i think he wouldn't care if people praised him or not he just seem's like one of those people who go 'u hate me? alright cya later!'. like when u really think about it it almost has to be a joke who the hell would actually want to plagiarize some checker strat and get away with it. He was probably prepared to get caught... the only thing that puzzles me is A who told the checker site that some one stole the article or B how did the checker guy find out? like really how was it found out it was plagiarized???

Another CSN member noticed that it looked REALLY familiar. He thought he had read it in a chess book, but did a keyword search on the 'net to see if he could find it. Turned out to be just similar wording, but it was a checkers article to begin with. The checkers site is probably not even aware of this incident, and CSN didn't get in trouble for it, but could have had it not been taken off. That answer your questions?
