    VAC Betas Now Limited

VALVe has decided to limit the number of servers that participate in the beta testing of new security modules. There is no way to sign up for future betas. Select admins will be contacted by VALVe with new password information.[break="Here is the official word"]
We've changed the password for testing the beta security modules. We're going to reduce the size of the group that is beta testing for us. We'll be contacting server admins individually to participate in future beta tests.

If you still have the old password "vactest" in your command line, you can go ahead and remove it. The Secure Master servers will give you the public security modules if you have the incorrect beta password.

We'll continue sending information/details regarding public security module updates to the server admin mailing lists.

    -Eric
This appears to be a positive change. Any faulty beta security modules will not be a large scale problem in the future. Also, hackers could have a harder time finding beta security modules to test or modify cheats with.

What I don't understand is why Ritchey007 didn't just post this here earlier. I saw that he posted it on counter-server, but Mr. Lugosi posted it here.

No, I'm not complaining. I was just wondering.

Have you ever noticed that you never see me and Ritchey007 in the same place at the same time? Coincidence or what?

Betas are cool and all, but a public one is needed soon. Cheating is rampant again: I just came off a server where one cheater was facing off against another cheater. I haven't seen this scenario since early this year. What they got to use out there right now? oc, ak, opengl cheats? And the newest vac (if it ever gets out of beta) is suppose to do what, stop just Joolz? Dosen't look too good.

Speed cheats and the ever-pleasant "Hi, i'm an asshole. You will all overflow untill you give up and go to another server" deal have also returned.

Yes Cheating has returned Hl-guard 1.26 Isnt helping well either, seems most cheats now out go around Hl-guard. The reason for VALVe only releasing the vac to certain people is that the last vac module was un-coded and its source was available from the OGC website thank god ID is sueing OGC as I type this and ANY webspace server that holds there material for download. OGC is no-longer the problem no its a vast number of smaller hacks oc ak ect. which are now designed because of the (vac sourcecode being released) now go around the vac when the wallhack block vac becomes available to the public again (which may not be until the release of CS:CZ) VALVe is currenlty making a new terms of use install faq with CS:CZ which in short will make it illegal to make cheats for the game.

thus VALVe will be able to sue the hell outa anyone who makes cheats for CS:CZ or any webhost who hold the hacks.

But as for my main opinion I still think the vac should be available to anyone and bans of detected cheats be for at least two weeks.

              (FALSE OR POSITIVE)

OpenGL Wallhacks are still blocked by HLGuard and script cheating is next to impossible with HLGuard's cvar blocking. Beyond that... we are limited... but still effective.
