    Interview With 3d-Mike

3d-Mike, creator of de_survivor, has been interviewed over at BombSiteX. The interview contains some information about the man behind the maps, plus some information regarding his newest map, cs_greenhouse. Here's a snipit of the interview:
I read that you I quote: "discovered some pretty new ways of making trees" what is that new way?

Cant tell yet. I promised that those trees would be exclusively for DoD_Stuka so we;'ll have to wait untill that one is released
New ways of making trees, eh? Sounds interesting. For the rest of the interview, click here.

Not anymore, the regular pub servers are pretty much spolied with cheaters and kids trying to 'pwn' my ass. But weve got another LAN comin up and Im sure we'll be terrorising eachother on CS again
      lol, how true.

his arguments against dust aren't very compelling. So it's uncomplicated? So it's small? That makes gameplay poor? I think not.

de_dust is a horrible map for PUB servers. but its really fun to scrim with 3v3 or 2v2.

Dust is quite fun with any number of people playing. I think he's a little jealous because it has more servers running it than any others.

The "reporter" though can't speak be bery goods henglish..lol

Dust and Aztec and all that are great playing maps, especially for league play. Don't get me wrong I enjoy them, but it is the same thing every round, and they are pretty boring visual wise, and completely unrealistic as far as an actual environment for a real counter-terrorism situation. Most of the official maps are; the exceptions are back alley, oilrig, torn, survivor(although bombing a crashed plane is hardly realistic, at least the environment is) and older official maps like thunder, foption, docks, that one map in the train yard no one liked, etc. Problem is they all played like ass when it comes to CS based tactics. 24/7 dust is all well and good, but it's just no fun. I'm in a CAL clan and it's the only reason I still play CS. The pubs, and maps they play, are played out.

As for the interview.I'm not the biggest 3D mike fan, I agree with him on his points about the official maps though. But all I can say is CS has pretty much evolved into an e-sport, so chances of any non league playable official maps getting in to CS are probably slim and none, but hey we had our fun till around beta 7 right? And Havana doesn't count, because being able to rescue the hostages in 0.5847 seconds from touching them is stupid.

All maps after they're broken in will play the same over and over, it's the nature of a team based game pushing and pulling to win the round.

People like predictability in games, the safety factor and being able to know roughly where the enemy is likely to come and know where you're safe at any given moment is a huge contributing factor to the popularity of maps.

It's very easy to point out the flaws in maps that are not nearly as popular because they do not have ``safe'' areas for the player.

Yea this is one of the things that I'm different about. Back when new maps where added pretty consistently I really enjoyed the time before everyone got use to the map and got to know it like the back of their hand. You could still surprise the enemy with various hidden nooks and crannies that hadn't yet been camped to death, and it all felt fresh and different from previous games. That's what drew me in to counter-strike in the first place. But I'm also quite partial to the league play as well, and love my weekly matches :)

yea im w/ MikeJ. consistently adding new maps would make myself drawn more to the game...i remember those first few weeks i started to play, and it was greeat. things are getting mechanical, and kinda boring. it seems like valve has pretty much ruled out new maps, but i cant say for sure. anyone know what their stance is on new maps?

Valve ruled out new maps? What makes you say that?
