Nice, but I won't be using it.

First off, while 3500 polies isn't usually that much, for a player model that is a lot, and when you've got two or three of these guys on screen, plus high-poly weapon models, and you'll be needing a damn good card to keep that running at a comfortable FPS. It's a bit stupid really because there's quite a few places where the poly count could be lowered and the model wouldn't look any worse at all. Still, I'm sure I'll be the only one to complain about this since everyone else gets 3000FPS at 1280 res, but whatever. It's still a high poly count for a player model, and it could be reduced.

Far as the rest of the modelling goes, it's fine. If this model had been done by anyone else or if we'd never heard of LAca before then I would have said it's amazing, but frankly this is no better nor worse then any of LAca's other models in terms of the modelling, so it's just... just not so surprisingly good. It's still a very good model, it just doesn't have the 'wow' factor since we've essentially seen it all before.

The skin isn't as well done as the model. Photoskins very rarely look good, this isn't an exception to that rule. The trousers look under-contrasted, desaturated and blurry, the helmet looks just a bland, flat grey colour in-game, the gloves are also suffering from some severe blurriness, as are the arms. I think instead of trying to be clever with photoskinning, should just stick to the traditional way of giving Photoshop/Paint Shop Pro a boot and doing it from scratch. Frankly it looks better 99% of the time.

This is by no means a bad model, yet it's not absolutely amazing and perfect either. The photoskinning idea has let it down, and since we've seen it's kind before it's lost that 'wow' factor.

If you've got a machine that can comfortably run a couple of these guys plus high-poly weapons all at once, then go for it. I suggest giving it a quick clean up in Photoshop first though. If your machine is getting on in years, don't bother, it's not worth it. After all, playability is better then looks, and if this'll kill your machine, it just isn't as perfect as it should be to warrant using it.

Overall, whether you use this or not depends solely on your machine spec and whether or not you can live with the somewhat blurry skin. I personally will be sticking with Djiesse's stuff for now.

Loving the model, but the real question is. It's not so much can your computer handle, it's can the HL engine handle it. Character models in all the latest games are becoming more complex and they run smoother than CS can dream of.

Example, Farcry looks better and carries higher poly character models and weapon models and uses DX9 shaders and all that techno babble ****. And yet, IT runs just as well as CS does if not better.
