    TFG Looking For Scripters

The Family God of Militia 1 and 2 fame has a job opening for his next project involving a movie with the Half-Life engine. This time around he's looking for an experienced Console Script Expert who will be responsible for creating camera movement scripts for arc-turns, panning, dollying, and other complex movements.

If you're interested in working with a proven Half-Life movie director on a fun and complex project, send him an e-mail at daniel_frome@hotmail.com or talk to him directly on IRC on #militia2 on Gamesnet.

Certainly sounds like it. The last two were amazing; can't wait for the next one.

i hope this one will be better than last ones in terms of story, the last 2 were pretty cheesy in my opinion

Too bad, unless he is pinging something near a LAN ping, a movement script will not operate as smoothly as he would like. But GL.

Hell, I could look at the commands and everything and use my knowledge in Mathematics, but I don't really know what panning or dollying are Anyone else in Calc 3 as a Senior in HS? There are some Juniors in my class! Oh well, if noone else comes forward I guess I could try to help, it's basically just some geometry and trig...

panning is moving a camera from side to side, usually slowly. a dolly is a cart that a camera can sit on, makes movement smoother. how it would be useful in cs, hell if i know.

they're both camera movements. panning is indeed rotating the camera on an axis, not neccessarily with any certain speed. dollying is using the dolly cart you mentioned to physically move the camera forward and backward without moving it on its axis. there are many more camera movements, such as craning, tracking, etc.

Yes, the movie will be done over a LAn with the camera also being the server for no lag. I'm getting a lot of useless responses about people who want to do OTHER things for the movie. If you want to do something else please do NOT respond at this. I'm only looking for a mature individual who can script out a few arcs and pans and we'll use them a few times for the movie.

Good luck mate. :) I don't know jack about scripting camera movements. If somebody posted a list of the necessary speed adjustment commands, basic stuff you'd need to use, then the math and scripting part would likely be quite doable, but I'm not the only one saying that.

Random question with the camera work, though irrelevant to what TFG's working on... can a server "unlock" the FOV option to allow for config script zooming? That'd open up a lot of possibilities for the camera work.

It's a shame CS doesn't allow for basic looping, logic, and query elements in scripting, as they'd open up a world of possibilities. Of course, then I'm sure people would figure out how to somehow use them to cheat, oh well.
