The problem with stopping cheats is sort of like the problem with totalitarian governments.
I stopped reading there. Alright, fine I read the whole thing.

But I think someone has read 1984 and Animal Farm a few too many times.

What kept CS alive in this dark period was the realization that whether you won or lost, there was something about the game that wasn't really fair anyway... ping differences, wallhack, anti-recoil scripts, speed-hack, aimbot, snake, burst settings, winamp support, total radar, etc...
That may or may not be true, but the question is, would you rather play in an environment where cheats are around? Or what you rather play in an environment where everyone is legit? I for one would like to play with other legitimate players...

If you know a game is PERFECTLY fair and you lose playing it, you'll never play again if you rationally seek to preserve your self-esteem.....

Sure, you could quit, obviously if something's hard at first then it's not worth doing. Since all but one of those things on your list are still in the game, doesn't that mean that CS will still go on?

I really doubt this will go off without a hitch but I hope it does. Like I said before, I bet there will be model placement issues when coming around corners and such. Just as long as they work on it and it isn't too serious.

But it's basically the same thing that HLGuard servers have running, and there isn't really a problem with that (unless you're on dial up.), so why would there be a problem with this?

It's not like this new VAC update really offers anything new, though it's nice to have a Wallhack block without having to have HLGuard running on the server.

um....the new update is partially effective.

However, I have just tested a number of wallhacks which still work.

                  oh well.

whoever that was with their long rant about the sadness of losing a fair game, don't worry yourself. Hacking is still as easy as ever.

If Valve can make an aimbot blocker that is as effective as this wallhack block, I would be a happy man. Personally I think the aimbot is harder to see than wallhack as a person with already decent aim can have his aimbot make only pin-point corrections which are very hard to notice...

Of course I am talking about cheaters with half-a-brain which would be the minority of the cheating community. So still, great news =D

Are you sure you tested them on online VAC updated secure servers?

How much you want to bet that stooopid was (and likely still is) a cheater? Honestly, nobody but the people who cheat are disappointed by this announcement in any way.

Stooopid acts as if you can't do anything to stop actions you don't like in a democratic system. People complained (very loudly) about the cheating going on in CS that was ruining something they loved. And as a result, it got changed. Sounds pretty democratic to me.

What really kept CS alive through the cheating spree was the anti-cheating effort, which gave people hope that the game would one day return to what it had been. Starting with yesnid's original cvar checks and going on through the modern VAC solution, the anti-cheat effort gave people a reason to stay.

Cheats simply haven't done anything good for CS. All they did was make a bunch of kids think they could be cool and bad at the same time, artificially padding their scores and feeling invincible with their computer aid.

As much as stooopid might try to argue for the continuation of cheats, the fact of the matter is that 99% of the CS community would gladly see cheaters impaled on a long wooden pole and left to rot. We like as even a playing field as we can get, where we know that if we've been beaten, it's been because of the other person's skill, and we can feel a sense of awe when we are completely annihilated by the sheer skill of another player. There was none of that when cheats were big. No, instead of saying "wow" people just said "BS." There's no fun in that, no matter how much stooopid might like us to believe.

I've noticed more and more that people have returned to saying "nice shot" or "good job" and such after particularly skillful performances. Honestly, that makes me really happy, as it puts me in a much better mood to be playing CS with positive people.

I sure hope this security module works as intended now, glad to see it being released. I'll put up with a few minor glitches now and then in order to eliminate wall hacks, certainly. Thanks VALVe for all your hard work... :)

Stoopid, that's ridiculous. I don't rationalize if I'm beat legitimately, I learn from it, that's why we keep playing, so we can grow to be a better player. Cheaters are simply people with little or no self esteem. They are the ones who will give up when the VAC is perfected, and I say good riddance to them.

Can't disagree with Stoopid more. To excuse hacking based on some "freedom" flag he wants to wave is ridiculous. If ones skill is so lousy that he can't compete in CS, there is always SIMS and Checkers.

I'd rather that person leave the CS community rather than hack and continually kill skilled players.

Major kudos from me to Valve. Now when someone does a amazing shot...it was just that. A amazing shot. Now the CS players can get back to having fun without the questioning paranoia.
