Heart Of An AWPer, Chap. 15

Sebastian at CS Central has put up the latest installment of Ryo-Ohki's Heart Of An AWPer series. This one is Chapter 15 and titled Inferno, and follows The Recruit as his group conducts a night-time raid on a Kuwaiti oil pipleline.

Static hissed in the recruits' ear as he waited for a reply. He began cycling through the group, waiting for an answer. There was nothing, only the meaningless crackle of natural radio waves.



Cursing silently, the recruit motioned to his counterpart and asked if his radio was working. When the rifle wielding soldier received no reply either, the two exited the house and began backtracking to the trucks. Just as the recruit closed the door to the last house, a single scream rent the night air.

I like the Heart of an AWPer stories, but I find that sometimes they are over-descriptive. Sometimes I'm wanting to read a story, but it feels more like a thesaurus.

mmm. really nice. nothing too hard about the vocabulary though, ironclad. seems simple 'nuff. anyway, the only thing i don't like about this series is that whenever the recruit is with a team, ''everybody dies! everybody dies!'', eh? someone annoying.

This is true, and I especially find with the AWPer series that they take on a sadistic and/or perverted view of the violence.

a) I'm called Ironclaw (on here anyway)

b) I never said it was hard, just that it was like a thesaurus, maybe you find a thesaurus hard to understand I don't know

Crazy, isn't it? I'm with you, it's definitely more indicative of good culture and taste to post derogative comments on the original work of other people.

Yes, this series is rather perverse and sadistic in many respects. We're on chapter 15, for crying out loud, you should have figured that out by now. If you don't like it, there's been plenty of time to stop, not like anyone is forcing you to read this.



With that said, I kind of like these stories. Not that I'd use them as bedtime stories or anything, but there's a certain fascination in the mindset of someone capable of killing without regret; no, killing for pleasure even. It serves as somewhat of a catharsis for some of the events we hear about and see in real life, helps us deal with them somewhat.



So, while they're not pleasant, happy-go-lucky stories, they still have a place, so long as you can appreciate them. Not totally realistic or anything, but I think that's kind of the point. Just like fantasy stories of heros paint pictures of men larger than life, invincible against all foes... this is painting the picture of the frightening character who himself is terrible and yet undying. Not realistic, but still entertaining in its way.
