    VALVe Interview

The B-F Total Gaming Network (known as Boyfriend TGN to me) has interviewed VALVe's Erik Johnson. Here are some preview questions:
Can you elaborate on the shield in particular? How effective do you think it will be beyond the first round given its inability to fully stop rifle fire?

In the current implementation, it will fully stop rifle fire.

Do you feel the new weapons will be worthy additions given the overwhelming popularity of a small group of guns in CS? (AK-47, Colt Commando etc)

    Yes.
Read the rest of the interview here. Lots of CS 1.6 info is included and they even posted a new first person shield pic. You can get more CS 1.6 info on our next version info page.

    VALVe Interview

To the absolute terror of DchozN, I'm going to break his streak and post some news. Computer and Video Games has posted a short interview with VALVe Software. (Free registration required.) Among those interviewed are Erik Johnson and Jess Cliffe. They give insight into the current trends of gaming and where it may lead.
How difficult is it as a developer to remain unique (in terms of games) or come up with unique ideas for games?

Jess Cliffe: We're in a bit of a post-modern era in the gaming world where a lot of the unique games are mixtures of old classic genres. While some designers may be listless with an "it's all been done" attitude, there are still a lot of opportunities with taking the ingredients and mixing them up.

Being unique and innovative is great. Yet, I like to remind myself that they don't necessarily translate to pure fun in the same way that working with bleeding edge technology doesn't guarantee a great game.
You can catch the rest of the interview right here with free registration.

      VALVe Interview

The Gathering conducted an interview with the dreamy Jess Cliffe and Mike Dussault from Valve Software. Questions pertaining to mapping, level design, Half-Life movie, and much more await you.
Q: What is important when making a level for a game such as Half-Life2?

A: Prototyping a map with placeholder textures is a good thing to do, because then you can test the gameplay before you invest in making the map look good. Make sure to playtest it a lot. Watch over someone's shoulder without saying a word, and observe and make notes. Feel free to send us your map, and we will provide feedback.

            I RULE YOU ALL!! lol

I learned that the riot shield will block all rifle fire

            sweet...

that will add some more fun to the game, but then you will also have people who camp in the corners crouched hiding behind there riot shields.

and on assault the awper on the CT roof can have some1 block him with a riot shield, adding a litte safety!

            YAY!

              Yes.
And still no word on whether they are going to make any of the other 18 weapons at least useful. Either it is the fault of the interviewer for not asking, or they aren't doing anything about the other weapons.

Wow, the game is going to go to hell if the shield stops rifle power. Fuckin mobile walls with ppl popping up with awp or m4. They need to fix the other weapons and not add more.

As long as we're focusing on what our customers want, I don't think we'll have much of a problem with building a successful user base.

So uh, when will they start listening to the customers? I have yet to see them once, except for possible the whole automatic weapon switch 1/0. Unless, use original HL users who have MOD don't count as customers, then that makes sense, just screw us over to make more money.

Its funny cause a lot of people here thought that the riot sheild was going to suck cause it wouldent stop rifle rounds. Imagine the look on a sniper on the ct side of the bridge on aztec when he sees someone with a riot shiled chargeing at him across the bridge, and hears the entire terrorist team behind him...

He said "in its current implimentation, it fully stops rifle fire.." which, to me, implies that perhaps they will change this in the future depending upon user feedback or otherwise.

The shield will stop rifle fire but obviously not grenades and it comes with a crap pistol so it should be pretty useless anyway. But I could also be proven completely wrong and ppl make some really nice tactics with it. Like the glock, which noone used to ever use really until some "pro" clans started doing a pistol round glock/armour combo.
