Also, you can never have enough CPU and memory for a server. On top of that, they are running multiple game servers off one duel 2.8 GHz machine. I'm sure the CPU load goes over 50% during peak times.

I rent a server from Nuclear Fallout and it is nothing but the absolute best server I've ever rented.



I've rented from AoWC and Fast Lane Servers (Which went out of business) and Nuclear Fallout kicks both their asses all over the battlefield.



The price for Griffin Run seems a bit too high in my opinion, but hey, any time you can get a discount it's much appreciated.

If I rent a server I'd rent a griffon run server simply because they had teh game where you got to shoot the hostages.

looks like they are makeing it up as the go along sence now they changed 10,000 to 7,200 which just funny becuase i would like to see who is braging about haveing a 7,200 rpm drive besides some idot hocking computers on an infomertial. sure they use scsi, scsi is nice for drive traffic. do you know how often that happens in a game cs? when the map loads.



also, you can too have enough cpu and memory for a server, if your memory and cpu usage never hits 100% you have enough. i would imagine their cpu load goes over 50% aswell, if not they are seariously waisting resorces. you can run at 99% cpu all day long and it is no different preformance wise than running at 1%, as long as the cpu has power to spare nothing is geting slowed down. as for your commets about running multiple game servers of a single machine, i would imagine that is true seeing as how, like i said, 2.8ghz zeon and 2gb of ram is rather overkill. however that begs the question; what makes running a server with 5 games on a 2.8ghz machine any beter than running a server with 4 games on a 2.2ghz machine? answer: nothing.



hence, what makes griffinrun a beter choice? well according to the link it is mostly that you can buy into a bunch of senceless drivel that has absoulity no bearing on reality and gets changed when people spot the blatent lies in their marketing. the may have beter managment, bandwith and customer service; but after seeing how they try and trick people into beliveing things that do not add up or are blatently false i would look for a more honest solution at a beter price like possably the one Edge100x mentioned above.

I don't know much about hardware, but I know that I have rented from bargain basement server providers, and i get lag spikes, packet loss, and choke up the ass.

If you're looking for a server, I'd recommend checking out Net Gamer and ReconGamer. You're going to get a top-notch robust server from GriffinRUN, but our experience in the past with both companies mentioned above has been great, and the price is more reasonable for the average clan.

ohh sure MikeJ, going cheep is often asking for trouble, however buying a buch of hype with a fat price tag on it is not nessacarly avioding it either. best to do some resarch by playing on various companies servers regularly and asking their customers how satisfied they are, find the ones who's condions you think are acceptable and out of those pick the one with the best price.



pesronaly i think it is silly to rent a server in genreal as there are so many out there to begin with and most of those are just useing spare hardware/bandwith laying around some office somewhere, might as well just play on them. however if you realy feel you need your own server and don't have such resorces i realy recomend you take the advice i gave above.

I have used Recongamer in the past, and must say that I have had very little problems with them.



For the year that I have had the server I have had very little if any lag spike problems, etc. About the same as I got on the RunArena server.



Another choice, not as good as Griff or Recon I am sure, is to rent a dedicated server from Rackshack.net.



For $140 a month you can get a dedicated P4 2.0ghz with 1GB of ram. The server is yours, and whatever you put on it is what runs on it. CoFR runs a Natural Selection server on it, and it seems to run fine. If we wanted to run a CS or TFC server you could have 2 18 player CS servers and 1 TFC 18 player server, or similar combo. You get 400GB of transfer a month, which is plenty in most cases.

I feel that the most professional method of responding to a post on the front page is by using your comments facility. Perhaps advertising posts shouldn't allow comments..?

I may do that, but because of the number of advertising posts on the front page over the last few months, I worry that the message would be drowned out or ignored by the readership.
