I'm still trying to get a grip on the database server downtime. It's up much more often than it was a few weeks ago, but it shouldn't go down at all. As a result, if you are not logged in you will see a cached main page which features no comment counts at all and only a link to vote in polls. This will significantly reduce any database connection issues, but puts a heavy strain on the server's file system. I don't know if the file system or mysql server will budge but over-all I think it'll be a good change.

poll
Here's a novel poll: If a CS spinoff was made, which genre would make the coolest game?
Last week's results (right) don't surprise me at all, but I do favor the smoke grenade. Really, it's cool. And it works all the time without needing a HLDS upgrade.

in the newscoding fun
The biggest change was the switch to a cached main page for users who don't log in, which was described at the beginning of the post. A few changes in the administration section will help us run the site a bit better, but over-all nothing too big this week.
weekly wisdom
An accidental ambush shows that not only are the attackers are uncoordinated, but that the defenders are short in intel.

The MX500 gets props from the hardcore gamers over at CSNation. This is the same mouse at the MX700 except this one has a cord. This might solve the issue of weight some of you have had with the cordless.Which in English means that we reviewed the latest Logitech corded optical mouse: the MX500.
