    GotFrag.com CPL Updates

GotFrag.com has put up some serious updates concerning the CPL Pentium 4 Winter Event, which started today in Dallas. Among the updates are previews for USA teams and Scandinavian teams, GotFrag's top 10 ranking of the competing teams, and an excellent article by Midway entitled The Game Inside The Game, an "exclusive feature on what people should look for while watching HLTV in the coming CPL matches".
Joining HLTV after the extensive search for that last spot. 'Man', you think to yourself, 'this 128-man HLTV server filled up fast; now what am I suppose to watch?'

Most players join to see the action that surrounds them in a brand new world refer to most as a CS match, 5 guys vs 5 guys. Problem is most people have no clue what they should be watching. They don't truly understand the difference between the common everyday OGL-Open ladder match and the CPL Championship game. Obvious the players are ten times more accurate, but that's not the only difference.
You've got your work cut out for you, so scramble over to GotFrag.com and get started.

That Gaming Inside the Game article is old. Old by internet time meaning I saw it a few days ago on the site but I'm just a cranky bastard.

Have a happy birthday Sublyme. Oh wait, that's my birthday. You stole it. Asshole. I'm getting a new mouse and a fUnc pad either for christmas or my birthday. Not really sure because people seem to meld the two together.

Thanks for the great post. The Ranking BTW is only the North American Top 10 list. 15 people from various esports sites and clan representatives vote on the Rankings.

                    5. To view live Counter-Strike and Team Fortress Classic matches, via Half-Life's Multicast Spectating technology, also known as HLTV, visit the Cyberathlete Amateur League's website at www.caleague.com. A list of national and international HLTV servers are listed at CAL.

i knew i saw it somewhere, that is from the CPL suggestions a few articles down. but yea, no ips listed there

Hmm, you can really tell this is a new model... I don't know if anyone else has spotted this, but there is a real difference between how older models were skinned, and how newer ones are skinned. The newer models always seem to have 0 contrast and always look like they're made of plastic...

                      Anyway...

The modelling is pretty good. No better then any other TMP model out there, but no worse either. If this model had come around years ago I would have said it's the best TMP I've ever seen model-wise, but we've kinda seen this sort of thing many times before so it's just nothing special now. It should be noted by the way that the polycount increases by about 1000 if you use the CZ animations or Stryker animations. The price you pay for those 'pretty' CZ arms I guess.

The skin, like I said, you can definatly tell it's a new skinner. Very little contrast, one matte gray colour (with a slight blue tint I think - why the hell do people give guns blue tints? It always looks crap), no real lighting on it, basically looks like plastic. If you use the Syrker animations then all you'll really see of the gun most of the time is the back end which is rather flat and feature less, just one solid gray colour basically. I like the skin on the silencer, it feels like it ewas done by a different person as it has a nice amount of contrast on it and actually has some lighting. I'm looking for a good silencer for a hack I'm doing, I think I've just found the perfect silencer. If it was just abit darker it'd be perfect. As for the main body, it needs some serious attention from the dodge and burn tools, plus it needs to be grayscaled and darkened. Overall the skin is fine, I think the skinner just needs to get some more experiance and have a look at some older models, see how it's really done.

The animations are all a bit iffy. The CS defaults are alright, just plain defaults, so nothing speical there. The CZ defaults are, as with most CZ animations, actually quite nasty. It's got this stupid idle animation which is A) quite unrealistic, nobody holds a gun that unsteadily and B) shows that your guy may as well not bother holding onto that RIS handle, since he's got 0 grip on it anyway. The Stryker animations are quite nice in theory, though they give the TMP being more powerful then it actually is, which could trick you into trying some ill-advised bravery. The thumb also skips on the reload start, and the draw animation is sheer crap - even if this was a pistol model, it shouldn't spin that quickly. Hell, it shouldn't spin at all. The shoot animations also have a bit too much kickback/report/recoil (whatever you want to call it), which gives the gun the aforementioned feeling of false power. The gun is also held at a crap origin on these animations. So overall while the Stryker animations have some nice ideas, they fail.

Overall, I actually quite like this replacement. It's main problem is that it feels like a work in progress - it only feels half finished. If the skin got some proper work done on it, and if they got some animations sorted (to be honest the CS defaults are the best here), it'd be very good. The model itself is very solid, just the skin needs work and someone really needs to invent some decent machine-pistol animations.

If you've tried every other TMP out there (like I have) and haven't found one you like yet, give this a go obviously. However, there are better TMP models out there and if you either don't use the TMP much or if you already have a model for it you're fairly happy with, don't bother using this.

                      EDIT:
Kais has to write a novel about every sotd XD...
CDG members have to learn to stop calling me Kais since I don't use that name anymore anywhere (hell, CDG was the only place I ever used it), whereas I use this name everywhere.

And anyway, just saying 'yeah it's alright' doesn't exactly tell people much about a model. If you're not going to give any form of real information then you may as well not bother at all.

Errors I dont care about I love the skin. Plus Giz > most people.

I think it looks nice ingame the silencer is badass. The vert forgrip has the most errors on it than anything else on the gun. But me no cares since its the best one out there.
