    WCG USA Press Release

The WCG USA website has been updated with news regarding prizes for the USA Finals. In the past, 1st place got you a trip to Korea to compete in the World Cyber Games, which 3D won last year. However, this left little incentive to be 2nd place. After all, you still had to pay to get to the event, only to place 2nd and turn up empty handed. Things are now being changed...
A chicken in every pot? No, a computer and monitor for every finalist! Every competitor who makes it to the WCG 2003 USA Finals will get to take home a new computer with an NVIDIA graphics card, and a Samsung 19" Flat CRT Monitor - for a total prize value of $2,000 per finalist! And, of course, the winners at the WCG 2003 USA Finals also get a free trip to Seoul, Korea for the WCG Grand Final and a chance at a $400,000 prize pool!
Quite an interesting incentive for better competition. Read the post yourself!

They said $2000 total value, and that's including a 19" TFT display. With that in mind, it's a safe bet there's no leaf blowers, er, um, I mean GeForce FX cards in them.

          Still, that's a decent prize. :)

$300 for a monitor and an additional $100 for a GF4 Ti4600 in the computer system. Thats a $1,600 system. $1,600 through CompUSA (WCG USAs sponsor) will get you an AMD 2100+/P4 2.5 GHZ or better.

            A P4 2.5Ghz/AMD 2100+, GF4 Ti4600, 19" Samsung, and additional specs computer would suit me just fine...

they would announce the specs if it was worth a shit. the "$2000 value!" bullshit is just with each parts full retail price.

I bet it's a piece of shit. They happily tell you all about the monitor but just say "new PC with NVIDIA card". If it was an nvidia ti4200+ you bet your ass they would say so. MX420 or MX440 at best.

and it wont be over 2.4ghz

could be true... but its possible that specs arent finalized, so they werent announced. Thhe nVidia card and Samsung monitor would definately be mentioned due to their sponsorships, specs finalized or not.

you would totally be like OMGZ IM GOING, but ever since you got your new dell, you're mistar big-shot-know-it-all man.

ps: Anyone going to WCG is a pro gamer and thus has a top of the line computer. A $2000 computer probably will just be auctioned off on ebay by the winners.

Giving away computers to dorks who not only have computers, but are most likely sporting a better system. Who are the ad wizards that came up with that one?
