The Cyberathlete Amateur League has opened the rosters for the CAL-Open League today. All you young and aspiring clans, this is your clan's chance to show the CS world what you're made of. If you are thinking about joining you need to have a valid IRC channel and at least 5 members on your team. The rosters close Thursday at midnight so you better hurry on over to their page.

This season is gonna be completely filled with hundreds of n00b clans that don't know what CAL is and they are gonig to end up dropping out or forfeiting.
Just a word of advice:
If your clan has never played in CAL before or doesn't know what it is before seeing this article, don't waste your/our time.Comment

You are 99.9% wrong. All those leagues have great players, well maybe not O. But I say that if you have a scrim of 5 random M players vs 5 random I players, its gonna be a close game cuz of their skill levels.
CAL-o, CAL-im, and CAL-m are worthless. There are so few decent clans in CAL-m, and im and o have none. None.
Now, as for keeping track of those leagues:
O - Worthless to follow until week 6/7
IM - Good for CAL-M clans looking to bring players up
M - Good to follow, cuz these are the next CAL-I guys.Comment

No, actually I'm right. IM is virtually the same as O, skill wise. IM may have some more mature or responsible teams, but you don't need to be skilled to advance from O to IM. It's possible for a terrible, terrible, terrible team to go 8-0 in O, it just depends who they face. Not to mention just about every other match you play is a forfeit. IM just has less forfeits. That's just about the only difference that I have found.
M has better skill level, but way too many clans break up every year, and a lot of the clans that did well in O or IM end up sucking in M, just because of the larger commitment. (Instead of having one match a week, you have two.) There are an incredibly few amount of clans in M that are worthy of I, and even less players.
Your comment about 5 random M players vs 5 random I players has no relevance. It takes more than individual skill to excel in CS, after all, it is a team game. The 5v5 thing is also completely wrong, if you've ever even played against people who are actually in I. And I don't mean random people on IRC claiming to be an "invite ringer", or something to that effect.Comment

I don't judge divisions on the skill (that's what they have CAL-I for) but by the level of commitment, dedication, and sportsmanship. CAL-O is crap I agree. It is made up of...
1. OGL newbie team that recruited through pubs and have no real team experience
2. Former cal-m players who were in a clan that broke up for the same reason that all clans break up, they couldn't handle a few losses.
CAL-IM however has all the clans in CAL-o that made it through the season giving it their best effort, having 5 mature players, and are ready for a more level competition as opposed to the erraticness of CAL-o.
I think CAL-IM is a great division for a lot of teams. It's pretty stable skill wise, most of the teams in it are about on par with each other, and it proves that you have the sportsmanship and maturity to get your clan through a full season of CAL, which is quite the challenge it seems with clans dying left and right just to start over again in cal-o with the same roster + new name and more shit talking. Also CAL-IM is good for teams who aren't ready for the competition of cal-m, there is only one match per week. It's a good medium skilled division that many clans should feel quite comfortable in.Comment
