They're planning on offering CS:CZ for sale over Steam - This has been stated a number of times. The game will still be available via retail channels for those who don't want to go down the Steam route just yet. This system will carry on for the foreseeable future - A day when you can only buy a Valve game via Steam is way off yet.



Also, its use as a content delivery system (primarily patches, fixes) will be free for those who have paid for the main game. There would be no point going to a pay system for patches, because people wouldn't take it - Charged once for the main game, then charged again to fix it? Ha. I can't see that happening, at least in todays gaming society. Perhaps things will be significantly different in the future, but we'll see.

I'm really quite ashamed of you people. There was a poll choice that was semi-funny and clearly supposed to have far more people choose it then actually agreed with it. I mean come on. This is a gaming site. Silly answers always win.



I voted for the first one merely because I didn't read all the choices and was like, "Oh I'm downloading Steam, I did for 1.4". I hope you all have excuses that are up to snuff.

yeah forgot about that one. I don't know, if it were any other mapper besides N@rby I'd have taken a good look at airstrip and thought to myself "looks nice, it'll end up being the next de_torn." But N@rby said in the csn interview that he had avoided making it too complex, so it may yet survive (still looks like there's lots of camping spots, where as inferno and aztec are great becuase of their basic simplicity).

Read the next version info (as rizzuh stated), and then ask for clarification before you go posting your misinterpretations as facts.



Steam is not, has not been, and won't ever be limited to broadband only. VALVe recommended that 56kers shouldn't bother with the old betas of the Steam system, due to the stress testing and long download times. I used it on a LAN initially, then on my 56k anyway, and it worked fine. You know what? Steam 2.0 will work even better than the betas did, and you can use it with any connection.



The flashbang bug was fixed in a beta server release, not the official one, so many servers are not running the fixed code currently. However, with CS1.6, all servers will be running the updated code that fixes this problem, along with some others.



Steam is a great system, doesn't stop you from doing all the things you already do the way you like to (if you choose, you can still download the updates in the old way), adds new convenience and options, and is slickly put together into a totally free package. How nice is that?



Plus, if you feel like buying a game from VALVe (or perhaps related partners in the future), and it hasn't made it to your local software store (or you live in the middle of nowhere), you can buy it over Steam and be playing in no time. This doesn't mean you pay for the things you already have, like CS, but rather you can choose to buy OTHER games if you want in the future. Sweet deal, I say.

Heh, I used dial-up for the 1.4 beta... so why shouldn't I for this one?



I did have broadband for 6 months... and 1.4beta made me get it, so it shows how long this new version has been in development.. except 1.5 which is also 6 months, forgotten if that patch actually did anything.
