MikeJ wrote..I know that you are refering to my post, but in the orginal release of the Steam beta they were going to run it subscription based. Now how can you really say that steam will never go subscription based? They made CS retail so they could make mney, what is stopping them with steam?
so many people know so little about steam...

.Sorcerer. , you do not understand what they mean by subscription. It means you can buy the game from Steam or in the store. It does not mean that you have to pay a monthly fee, which they have said you will not.
When I beta tested steam it did not take any longer, maybe a couple seconds, to get into a game then when using the coventional program. The initial download took a while, but not the general joining.Comment

Steam would be an ideal way for boost Valve's income, and so I'm quite convinced it will be used for that purpose at some point - but only if it's as successful as they hope. That could take at least a year, so I doubt we have anything to worry about yet. Even then, chances are there will be much free content, and only some parts will require payment (ie. commercial assets).
In other news, I'm 20 today, and N0TH1NG would have been 21. Ta.Comment

I assume the "payment" would be for the content that the CZ single player would offer.
Steam 1.0 was just slow because you had to cache CS on to your hard drive every time you booted it up. Or something like that...
Call me old-fashioned, but I guess I just like downloading the actual files myself.Comment

I think steam will be faster, more convenient, and more secure then anything we have seen so far. No more scrambling to find a working download mirror at the least.
And before anyone comments on Steam you should at least read what is known about it in the next version info page on this very site.
You will not have to pay for counter-strike via steam if you already own half-life or CS retailComment

You kinda missed airstrip out there - and the entirely new menu system which gamespy showed some shots of.
I wonder if Valve will actually be bothered to produce a changelog for both the hl engine and cs, as well as TFC which hasn't been mentioned for several months.Comment
