    Monday Monotony

We have a new poll up: Will you be downloading the new Steam BETA in order to play CS 1.6 BETA? The scheduled release date for CS 1.6 BETA is tomorrow, but VALVe may or may not be on time. You know the company by now.

Last week we had lots of new content:
    • the monday before the new year saw the 3d cpl mailbag. it's pretty good if you know anything about esports, i guess.

    • on the first, we posted mr bond's calendar for january. you can buy his calendars in print at our store.

    • last friday we broke news of narby's new map in this interview. the map, airstrip, will be in cs 1.6 beta. no map has ever been cut from the public beta stages, so it'll probably ship with cs 1.6 final too.

    • yesterday i posted the new variables mailbag, which most seem to enjoy even though it's the same "what would you add" formula we've used every four weeks for the past three years.
    Have a fun Monday.

I'll download it just to see what the new steam is like. Forget 1.6.

            what he said

btw jason, steam will be to your advantage when it's finnaly out of beta. All the stress testing during the first beta gave the impression that it's slow as fuck, everytime you connect.

Precache CS with it first, it will take some hours, but you can play without lag.

I played Steam 1.0 with the normal hl + mod installed and it took what it needed from that installation.. so hopefully this beta will only updated the er, updated files. so 20 odd megs as it goes along perhaps?

That would be a no for me. I want to see what 1.6 is like but if I have to use Steam then forget about it. I wonder how many CS players there will be when Steam becomes subscription based?

On a standard 1.5mb broadband connection it took me only about 25 minutes to download the whole set of files the first time, then about 1-2 minutes to download the essential executable files each time after that.
