Heh. I went to the petition page and the sogamed link had a session ID in it. Followed the link and I was logged in as Genesis23. Perhaps a line or two of code to restrict the session ID to the IP it was started from is in order?

Im from NY. Its 16 but you need to be accompanied by a guardian and 17 for almost regular but severer penalties for breaking the laws. (DUI is 3 year susspension I think.)

I also love how in the USA its 18 to sign your life away to the military and defend your country, but we're not mature enough to drink a bottle of beer.



Lets think about this...



18yrs old:

Join military and kill people with a M16, tank, hummer, plane, battleship, etc...

Vote for the leaders of the country who send you to war....



21yrs old:

Finally able to buy booze!!



I agree with evil_sheep. The term "minor" is wack.



Also on the note about driving, in some states that have one of those "graduated" driving programs where you start at like 15 and end up with your full license at like 21 or whatever...how stupid is that?



They dont allow you to drive a $2,000 used car on your own but once again you can join the military and be in charge of a $200 million plane or a $10 billion ship (average age is like 19 on a carrier).



Some things make no sense at all...

As for computer games, you said something happened last week to Rizzuh because of the American militia thingy. What happened exactly? I don't keep track.

Not sure what sparked it, but people were writing to Rizzuh complaining to him about CS:CZ depicting the American Militia as Terrorists. According to these guys, Rizzuh is not only an ignorant bastard, but he is also developing CS:CZ all on his own! Amazing.



Although, I think the "American Militia" being depicted in CS:CZ is not the same as the military associated American Militia. Not sure though.

The U.S. is not a Democracy. We are a Federal Republic. One vote for each person is not the case in the U.S. We vote and then the electral body casts it's vote.

Wasn't the movie KIDS banned from all video stores and retailers? That was a very disturbing movie, especially the first scene. I'm not sure, but I think it was.



Xep and Evil Sheep all good points, and the fact remains that if the US wants to bully around someone they can do so very easily. It's just they make the mistake of going after "one" person and just slaughter the rest that get in their way.



But still, gaming will never be banned in the US.

I won't pretend to have followed this debate in the comments section, but in my own opinion, freedom isn't always a good thing. Our society (US) seems infatuated with self-pleasure and fulfilling one's wants as high goals, if not the goal. Hardly ever do we observe the value of abstaining or perhaps restricting ourselves, not just for the value of gaining self-control but also for any negative effects (forseen or unforseen) that something could have.



While I also don't have any information as to Greece's decision and their reasoning, and therefore I won't render an opinion on it, I do believe it would be foolish to think that it's automatically a bad thing to prohibit something and deny oneself for a change. You may or may not disagree that removing all gaming from Greece will accomplish whatever aim they may have; however, as Grecians are being reminded, freedom carries great responsibility, and now their government seems to want to hold them responsible for their choices.

I would like to make it clear that there is a reason for this, and it's ignorance which makes you point out the 21/18 difference.



Since the federal government made 21 the legal age, the amount of alcohol related deaths has decreased dramatically. The number one cause of teenage death is still automotive accidents (most of which are caused by alcohol), but this number has decreased sharply too. In other words, the saved lives far outweigh your silly argument of, "but we can vote!!!!" Doesn't prove much, when you're 16 you are old enough to drive something that can kill someone else, but you can't vote. How's that fair!



Or when you're 12, the movies charges you the adult price. And you can't vote. Damn government!



BTW, up until the 70's only people 21+ could vote, too.

You forgot to mention a couple of wars. How about the Cold War? The war that lasted over 40 years, at which any time the world could have ended in nuclear armageddic destruction had Russia or the US been any more careless or stupid. The world was that close to the brink of destruction on several occasions and the US is just as much to blame as the crazy USSR. (maybe)

I agree with you about Vietnam, but that's about it. If's and but's, in the aforementioned statement. Building up arms was risky, but our risk paid off, and we won without having a war with Russia(that could have spelled the end of mankind), the Russian government collapsed, and they're in a rebuilding process right now. Would you have had communism win out instead?
