    Banning Optional For Now

Currently admins can prevent their secure servers from taking part in Valve's global banning. Erik Johnson posted this to the HLDS mailing list:
If you block port 27011, you won't globally ban people right now. In the future, you'll be required to open that port.

    Erik
It is good know that eventually people who try to test a cheat to see if it can be detected will risk getting banned from all secure servers.

Why? Kill all cheaters. There's no point in not banning them now, if eventually they will be required to.

I think that is the way it should be forever optional banning. Im anti-cheats but also anti- large punishment

Why are you against large punishment? You're too afraid it will get abused or something?

It will get abused. Jack ass admins will ban users, and wheter or not this gets added to master list is unknown. Only vac detection is global.

It won't get abused. If you get banned by an admin it doesn't go global. It had to be VAC that bans you.

And when someone figures out how to exploit the vac banning method, it will lead to mass abuse.

Just like that person who cracked WON.net and Q3's auth server.

I didn't know that. Wow. I must one up him and crack that cheating thingy, ogc, ogl site and put a big "you're gh3y" wallpaper. Who's with me. And even if it was cracked, and remained relitivly low key, people with bad cd keys wouldn't know that for one small time, they could have played online. CS Strategy guide? Um.

speaking of keys, I don't see why having a CD key changer would lead to you being banned if you can do it by the registry.

Note to Rizzuh: Sarcasm Tags should be compulsory, to avoid the confusion demonstrated in post #9.

Uh...well, if people are foolish enough to "test" cheats, then that just might happen. If I told you the stove is hot, why must you touch it yourself? Besides, I believe it's repeated offenses and such.

I'm glad I'm not valve. It's always something with you people, isn't it?

Maybe because there are still kinks to be worked out?

I got kicked because I use HLirc.

Well all i have to say is its about time that valve actually did something to stop cheaters..... Except in my opinion they shouldnt be going after the cheaters. They should be going after the cheat creators..

Its like going after the druggies instead of the drug dealers...

                              Just my 2 cents
