I wonder how long before some new exploits show up?

Also, someone mentioned this already, but wonder if it pushed back the beta 1.6 release?

Is it safe to go outside and play yet?

Well the affected functions can be fixed very easily...if anything it may make VALVe hurry up and release it. Dunno...anything could happen with VALVe.

Nope...the exploits are still there. This just protects you if you happen to be running Admin Mod on your server. It won't really be "safe to play outside" until VALVe fixes it

true, but the chances of sniffing an rcon password are pretty slim...

Actually, I read somewhere that it's transmitted as plain-text, not encrypted, so it's "relatively easy" to sniff. I don't know what that means, I lost my sense of smell years ago.

There is a ton of traffic... especially since *most* server admins do not monitor their server via somehting like HLSW 24/7... there is just too many packets to go through

It's been transmitted in plain text for four years and it's not like serves are being taken over left and right.
