i STILL just get the message preparing to play cs................................ unavalible at this time, apose to 'Smooth sailing' its like trying to ride an inflatable row boat through a 500ft tidal wave. And sure, youd be crazy not to expect a beta to have errors, but you WOULD expect it to actually downlaod for more than 20 poeple now wouldnt you?

Steam is a broadband business platform for direct software delivery and content management. At its core, Steam is a distributed file system and shared set of technology components that can be implemented into any software application.

If it cant handle heavy bandwidth load then Steam does look like a failure at its one goal

Bandwidth. It doesn't come cheap. Let alone, how many of use did try Steam the first time? Valve wasn't expecting this many people to beta test like in 1.5. I remember that in beta 1.5, there were only 3 or 4 servers hosting a game while everyone was stuck on 1.4.



For the love of god, Valve owes us nothing. They are the ones giving us these updates. Don't like valve? Go learn to program your own cs clone.

I have to agree. too many peoples (and game-sites) thought of this beta as a final release. there are too many people trying to get the beta at the same time, so stop it and just wait for the final release

I didn't have initial luck getting things to work, and they said they're delaying it, so I'm not going to try to force my way into the beta for now. When it's set up and working nicely, then I'll try again.



For now, it's school, work, and if possible, a little CS1.5 when I find the time. :) I have to admit... I'm quite glad I decided to spend the afternoon going to coffee with a friend rather than trying to get my hands on CS1.6b. Cute girls are definitely greater than failed CS betas. :)



I'll post the beautific vision of how VALVe could have easily avoided this, while still using Steam, and satisfied everyone... later.

can i just ask a question about when steam trys to update cs, should it open a window WITH a progress bar when it says "Preparing to play counter-strike" and when it logs on the progress bar starts going? Mine opens up a little 15cm, by 8cm or so window saying preparing to play and fails every time

Battle net has enough bandwidth for its games. 100,000 player at a time? + if you want play on battle net u forced too download patch. Maybe not 200 megabyte no. but it works.



Oh mine steam says---

Cannot connect to the steam network
