can someone please answer my question?

How can I launch CS 1.6 so I can just host my own server?!!?
Once you've subscribed to CS...just double click CS in the Games column...if things were working right this would bring up the new CS interface and allow you to start a server, but since vALVE guessed wrong by a few hundred thousand more or less users eating up all their bandwidth this doesnt seem to work anymore - as in you apparently cant 'START' CS or create a LAN server or change your client vars/settings without steam wanting to know that you have.

    new smoke rulz!

GALI = WAAAAY too much power/ammo WAAAY too little cost

I could be wrong, but everything has to go through Steam right now, which is obviously at a crawl. I say wait until the demand for the 400mb version of CS being sent over Steam slows down a little bit. I'm guessing a couple of days (unless everybody ends up with Steam 2).

i will betthat they do not continue cs as a freebe for us people.

They continue codeing and makeing advancements so people will come and buy cs.

So, how many of you people cursed 1000 times when they delayed this beta in September and December? I know this isn't true, but it almost seems like Valve did this to get everybody off of their back to release a new beta version of their game.. Come on guys lay off, THEY are the ones doing all of this coding of this FREE game, (i'm assuming) THEY are the ones paying for the 500mb bandwidth fees right now. When it comes out, it comes out. It's their dime, it it's their work, it's their game. You are just a peon looking for something to fill the empty space of time where you would have a social life, but must stick to your addiction of computer gaming.

                Im puzzled.

For those of us that already have 1.6, why cant we host OUR servers, on OUR machines. How does that now require Valves bandwidth? shouldnt it now be purely independent on those of us that already have it?

Everyone keeps on saying that the people who leaked it are responsible for this whole mess. Well, that's not entirally true. Face it, if the download really did come out at 3pm, the same thing would have happened and Valve would still have suspended new applications. I don't know how they thought they could handle 250000-500000 downloads of a 400 meg program over their network. I'm not sure that there are any servers that could handle that.

OK, everyone who signed that stupid petition needs to realize something: The reason 1.6 hasn't been released as an update patch is because it's not out yet. This was supposed to be a BETA not the full version. The update patch will come in time, but not right now because it's just a beta test. Thanks.

They really should have released 1.6 the good ol' way, instead of now having some stupid Gamespy-ish program that makes us pay for shizint. The whole Steam idea is uber dumb.

wait, they make an update to the most popular video game ever and they aren't prepared for millions of people to download it?

don't u realize that this is all your f-k-g fault????

For those who downloaded that leaked version, If u haven't downloaded that and tried to use it, this wouldn't happen.

And u guys have guts to blame Valve or Steam?????
Uhh.. no. If you read the post on shacknews, they said that leaked version did cause majority of bandwidth to die, but if it hadn't have been through leaked version, their server still couldnt have handled all the people downloading at once. Would have practically been a DoS if everyone had have waited and downloaded at once.

Hell.,. wouldn't be suprised if thye leaked it just to see how it affected bandwidth, and to have a scapegoat when/if their bandwidth failed them.

They might have been more prepared than this
