Steam is flawed due to the fact that it's aimed at DSLs. Part of the attraction to CS (for me at least) was that you could get a reasonable ping with 56.6k

wow. good game valve. go figure they wouldnt be ready to host people that want to get the game. go figure more than 1000 players would want it. i mean sheesh why would so many people want to downlaod the new version. way to go valve and keep up the good work of dissapointing your players. its one thing to fuck up the game by taking out bunnyhoping and all that good stuff but its another to lie to your gammers producing a false date when you know there is no way to support that many people downloading the next fucked up versionComment

Yay!!! Mad props to valve for being prepared! Ok, im playing armchair Developer here for a second. If i was to release a beta for the most popular online game in the world, I think i might double check on whether or not all my customers will be able to get my product. Hopefully Valve shapes up, they cant keep doing this. (me thinks of good ol' beta 5 days)Comment

Well duh, some 1,000,000+ users were trying to download that leaked version and tried to get into CS 1.6 sooner than Valve was going to release. 1,000,000+ users trying to get in at the same time. So Valve probably didn't had a chance to notice this and by the time they found out, they were too late; Their bandwidth is long gone. I think the lesson is to learn how to wait until Valve officially release Steam to everyone.
I'm not known for my vavle bashing, but this was simply the utter most stupid thing that could have happened (VALVe realized their bandwidth simply couldn't handle the load). I mean, hello! There is such a thing as experience. You might have had at least some idea what would've happened in terms of bandwidth requirements during something this big that people all over the world have been waiting for.
And blame the people who leaked this outComment

So, how many of you people cursed 1000 times when they delayed this beta in September and December? I know this isn't true, but it almost seems like Valve did this to get everybody off of their back to release a new beta version of their game.. Come on guys lay off, THEY are the ones doing all of this coding of this FREE game, (i'm assuming) THEY are the ones paying for the 500mb bandwidth fees right now. When it comes out, it comes out. It's their dime, it it's their work, it's their game. You are just a peon looking for something to fill the empty space of time where you would have a social life, but must stick to your addiction of computer gaming.Comment

as if they never had leaked versions before. come on. all they needed to do was to make the steam package carry some signature when connecting to the steam server "Hello, I am press-previes 1.6beta". Then the steam servers could've said, "No, fuck off. You are not authorised to connect cuz you are not the version we are gonna do as of now. Byebye.
Well duh, some 1,000,000+ users were trying to download that leaked version and tried to get into CS 1.6 sooner than Valve was going to release.
Simple. There's been quite a few sites putting that installer up for download. How the hell can people know it's a leaked earlier version?
VALVe should've thought of this. I mean, they should be bright enough by now.Comment

the worst thing about steam is they dont tell us shit, the release date keeps being pushed forwards, this beta crap is delaying the PROPER release of CS1.6 so they can beta test a program that will probably make us all pay to play CS one day anyway...
