Steam Update 02.12.03

An update to the Steam platform was just pushed to Steam BETA testers. This update contains no changes to the CS 1.6 BETA, mainly it fixes some issues with Friends and the Steam client. As usual VALVE's Erik "Motormouth" Johnson announced the update in the Steam forum today:[break="click here for the release information"]

There is a new version of the desktop component of Steam available now. If you shut down Steam now and restart you will recieve the new update.



Most of the changes in this release center around stability in the Friends network. Here is the detailed list:

• fixed vgui window titles not being set correctly in win98/me/95.
  
  
• friends that are in game now show a blank icon until the client knows what game the friend is in (instead of displaying half-life icon)
  
  
• the escape key, when not in game, now closes chat & property dialogs.
  
  
• fixed friends->about dialog text drawing with black text.
  
  
• fixed problem where multiple chat windows could be opened for the same friend.
  
  
• fixed one networking problem where you could be disconnected from the friends network.
  
  
• fixed auto-away not turning off if client gets disconnected
  
  
• fixed bug where friends would say it was in use in the game, when it was not.

i hate friends.. there are too many im programs out there., they should have added icq in game or msn..

i wish, as well, that it would be nice to have another chat service in the game. but friends will do, regardless. one issue i'm having with this latest build is that i cannot connect to the friends network as i type this, and the minutes behind me.

ya, u gotta like in game checkers...makes waiting for the round to end (like i do way too often) a lot less painful

That multiple window bug for tracker was funny. Seems to me like the steam 1.0 version of tracker/friends was more stable.

Steam has improved dramitcally, it really has. I had no problems downloading the update, it just happened when my computer booted. This program is absolutely amazing, I love it. I really hope they release it to the public soon (again).

They actually seem to have more bandwidth. I'm excited about the final release, a lot of my friends keep on bugging me saying "what new features are there?!?!"

I grabbed steam of some german sight last month and haven't mess with it too much. I love a lot of the updates (other than the slow strafe, but i bitched bout lose'n the bunnyhop in 1.4) but when steam was released it sucked & i see why it's official release has been delayed. It seems to be stabilizing now, so I guess it is time for me to get weened of of 1.5. Anyway, do you guys know how to customize 1.6? I found where to put my cfg's but, the bsp's, mdl's, wav's, etc seem to be compressed until you run the game. Do i just stick custom mdl's in the same folder i put my config's in? (if this question has been addressed somewhere else, & i bet it has, just link me there)
