    Minor VAC Updates

VALVe's Eric Smith let the HLDS community know that some new VAC security modules have been released. There's nothing incredibly new in this version, just some minor changes, but at least some good news is that servers no longer need to be restarted after module updates as of last week. Read below for the full e-mail.[break="click-a-lacky"]
*** This only affects Counter-Strike and Day of Defeat servers. ***

We've updated the public security modules again. These security modules

don't have any major changes in them. There are only some small changes.

Your Counter-Strike and Day of Defeat servers should update themselves

automatically. If you find your servers are suddenly having problems and

you're running them under Linux, make sure you have the beta Linux server

    installed.

The beta Linux server we released last week should fix the problems some

servers have been experiencing when we update the security modules. We

haven't heard about any problems with Win32 servers updating the security

modules. You can get the beta Linux server here:

    http://files.valve-erc.com/

    login: server_beta

    pass: server_beta

    Thanks.

And that's where the real power of the VAC comes in. They can just save the changes to the new anti-cheat system, and do a quick auto-update for every server out there. It's just as easy as saving to a hard drive.

It would be cool if valvE would just release updates and not tell anyone. Mass banning ensues.

I'm a rebel by the way.

hi i like to misspell release

No new cheat detections. In Eric's words, "We've made some small internal changes to the security modules. There's

nothing new detected or prevented for this release."

            Geat...

Now we got to wait another week for a VAC update that actualy fixes cheats... I know they work hard but its been about 2 weeks since they have fixed a cheat... At least release a wallhack-block or fix 1 single cheat. This is getting bad and i dont even play cs right now because of all the cheats out =/

O think, that cheats could be prevented in HLGuard way, where hacks are not very useful because of the wallhack preventing feature.

VALVe seems to be slowly but surely stamping them out faster than the Cheat makers can find a way-a-round VAC.

Just take a look at the OGC site, its been down for a good 3/4 weeks.

Im just saying they need to update because this is getting bad.. + im leader of my clan and to have clan matches right now is like asking for a loose with all the cheats out you never know what clan could be cheating so we have put matches on hold as well.. Just plain sad

well as far as I can tell --- OGC has shut down --- after last weeks VAC update I decided to see what they had to say, they just posted saying VAC has been updated and we are working on getting around it

then I checked yesterday and today and the OGC site seems to be non-existant

I had to reboot my server last night because no one could join.

That's just what System says (on the United Admins Forums)

For all we know he could be massively struggling to find a fix.

When the GameFAQ's Forums switched hosts it took 6 hours and that contains a HUGE amount of data, (a forum for practically EVERY game made), the OGC site has been gone for a good 3 weeks.

Now I don't know much about websites, php/html/servers blah blah blah, but I DO know that 3 weeks.... IS a long time, especially with OGC being the preferred tool for the cheaters out there. </waffle>
