Kinda off topic, but I guess that i'll ask now. I was wondering about clan play. I'd love to be one of those guys that just fill in for a teammate that can't show up for the server. Does this kind of thing exist? And if it does exist, do alot of clans welcome this? Like a substitute teacher or the 3rd string quarterback? :p

There is such a thing, called a ringer (the expression originally comes from horseracing I believe, meaning a horse that looks like the one entered in the race, a "dead ringer", but really isn't). Clans that want to scrim but are short on people will find somebody outside the clan to play to even the teams. Not a bad way to get a taste of clan play, but you'd kinda have to know people and show that you're competent enough to not be a total loss.

That's called being a "ringer". Their use is actually somewhat looked down upon in scrimmages, and they are illegal in match use. There's many channels on IRC for this sort of thing. You can go into #findringer on GameSurge, and say something like "CAL-m West Ringer w/ ventrilo + mic" or something, that should get some attention, even if you've never really played CAL-m. ;] Goodluck.

If you'd like someone to show you the ropes of competitive play, maybe I can help if you live in the US. I've done this with tons of my friends and some of whom compete in CAL, so I actually enjoy it. Post your AIM sn or something.Comment

Scrimming is fun but is a devil to get set up, especially if you don't have your own server. A program like this will go a long way to being helpful, especially if it's inter-compatible with IRC channels.
I've corrected CSN news posts before. They're not overly defensive about it.
HowlinMadMurphy, it was actually SteelV you should've mocked. Just so you know.Comment

I couldn't pick on SteelV because his excellent grammar and spelling confound me (except for that comma after the "but" in the first line of the second paragraph), and [GH]-Paladin was an easy target to jump on the bandwagon against. So mind your own business Thortok. I wasn't serious, just making a joke after Spoonman's post. Sue me.

I havn't downloaded the program and merely looked at the screenshots on the site, however, It seems to me it would be easy to allow EU players to use it as well, with just the addition of a couple of buttons...
We tend to call "scrims", "pcw's" or "wars", but there are the exact same channels operating on networks such as Quakenet and this would be a real help to us smelly euros too

I guess I understand where you guys are coming from, and I would probably feel the same way were I posting on CSNation, however, it should just encourage you to check through your posts a bit more thoroughly before posting them to ensure the "smart-alecs" don't get the best of you! :)Comment
