    Another Steam Update

Steam has been updated again. In this thread from the Steam forums Erik Johnson, the VALVe guy, posted the following about this release:
The main problem fixed with this release will be the lockups that people are seeing in the desktop version of Friends, as well as the bug that would cause Steam to use 100% of the CPU.
This update is for Steam only, but Erik Johnson did say that they are working on an in-game fix to be released "ASAP." So... start up Steam and update your platform.dll to version 7. Thanks FLeK0!

    Another Steam Update

Valve's Greg Coomer has stated that another Steam update will be released this coming week. This update will be small but I'm sure it will do some good. Specific information is not available at this time.

Greg also says that the Steam Network is back to a normal state. Hopefully they will add some more hardware and increase the network's performance for the next big update and other big releases.

The Half-Life 2 Hardware Survey has received almost half a million respondents. Valve will use this survey to tune the performance in Half-Life 2.

That's all for now but stick around. More is bound to come.

Although I really like updates, they sure are running through the version numbers.

i have found that i experience way less lock-ups if i do this:

                  1. Startup Steam

                  2. right click on the steam icon in the task bar (on the bottom right)

                  3. click on "Servers"

                  4. find your server, join it

                  5. as soon as the "Preparing to play Counter-Strike" window disappears, right click on the steam icon again and click "Exit"

                  6. While in game, make sure that you do not log onto friends (this seems to be a major cause of lock-ups)

                  7. If this doesn't work, deselect all joystick options in the "options" section of the counter-strike menu and start from step 1 again

the problem seems to be with steam, not counter-strike, and what you're essentially doing here is eliminating steam and connecting directly to the server.

please don't bitch if this doesn't work, all i can say is it works for me (usually).

Thank god for that, for the last week there was me thinking I had picked up a Virus.

Remember! This update stops lockups at the desktop. Lockups in game are to be fixed with the next update.

How about you run a website which covers every aspect of the Counter-Strike community, that is baseed almost entirely on submitted news items and the news team. The people on the news time have lives and can't always be on beck and call to bring you the latest Steam updates.

Yeah, you can be quiet now, and stop pretending like you know what you're talking about.
