    Erik Johnson CZ i'view

Computer and Video Games has posted a new interview with VALVe's Erik Johson about Condition Zero. Here is a little taste:
Johnson: We're heading into beta now with the product. The best thing about the Half-Life engine is that it's really matured. So it's all about building gameplay really. Since we've got the gameplay locked down it has started to come along really fast. We've also made a few enhancements and improvements to the Half-Life engine. We've added a few more cool effects and such.
The best news from the article was definitely when Erik was asked if CZ would ship in Q2 of this year: "I would say it's pretty well set in stone." So go read the whole interview yourself right now.

In other Condition Zero news: Computer Gaming World, one of those magazines that is still printed on that outdated paper technology, is going to have a CZ preview next month, which would be their May issue. Also, in their April issue they have an exclusive 58 second CZ trailer included on the disc that comes with the magazine.

What can you tell us about Condition Zero's multiplayer side? How will it differ from the Counter-Strike mod?

    Johnson: [...]

We're also adding a few new items to multiplayer. There'll be a riot shield that you can use when carrying a pistol, and you'll be able to block shots.
another 1.6 delay? we knew 1.7will be the multiplayer part of it, now again the riot shiled, thats in 1.6.

When he said the the gameplay is "coming along really fast" I think he meant in comparison to TF2.

Sorry boys. As much as I like Counter Strike. I'm boycotting the French to support the US Military.

Totally agree with Alpha's picture. Give Vivendi the birdie.

Relative to TF2, the Intel 200ghz CPU is "coming along really fast"....
"I would say it's pretty well set in stone."
I hear the stone around the Valve HQ is pretty soft, brown, squidgy and smells a bit rank.....not unlike year old BS apparently :S

I'm glad to hear valve's team is concentrating more with gameplay than any other aspect of the game, gameplay in my opinion is the reason CS has been so successful over the years, certainly not visually, thats a bonus that you can add on with things like cs-realism or fusion pack

If you get CS:CZ over Steam, I believe Sierra (and thus Vivendi) gets nothing. Not that I honestly care -- I tend to view boycotts on a world scale as rather pointless.

Not that I have tons of extra love for the French, but that's nothing new. If I start boycotting products from countries I don't like the leadership of, I'm going to have to stop buying "Made in China" products, and I'm too much of a cheap bastard to stop exploiting them.

Anyway, as far as the interview, what the hell are Specnaz? It was repeated more than once, which made me wonder if it's just stupid (instead of a typo), or if there really is some sort of crazy thing like that. I'm leaning towards the stupid misspelling side of things, though.

Besides that, looks good. Just makes me wonder if CS:CZ has working RS code, unlike CS1.6b. :)

awsome article, really shines some light on what cond. zero will really be like.

dunno if im gonna buy it though. Almost seems like theres not enough difference in the game for me to want to buy it. Probably will though just cause its CS =).

hmm..... if the graphics are still gonna suck, i doubt anyone will buy the game. someone tell that dude: GRAPHICS IS THE SECOND MOST ImPORTANT CONCEPT OF THE GAME.

Yeah, its not like I see someone in a CS server every time I connect that has been playing less then a month. Besides, you're right, none of the 8,000,000 people that have played Counter-Strike will even think about this. I think when people say graphics are anywhere near the top of the list when it comes to importance don't remember how fun games were on the NES, SNES, etc. IMO, Medal of Honor: Allied Assault was a god awful game. It just wasn't fun to me. But on the other hand Return to Castle Wolfenstein was great. The same graphics engine was used on both games (Quake III) so the difference was ONLY in gameplay. Besides, Condition-Zero will look even better then CS does now, so the game can only get better.
