    Official CS Bot Info

Apparently Michael Booth has been working with VALVe software to create an official Counter-Strike bot for quite a while now. HomeLan Fed has the exclusive interview:
HomeLAN - Why did VALVe decide to finally release an offline bot for Counter-Strike?

Erik Johnson - We've wanted to do a bot since we first released Team Fortress Classic, but for one reason or another something else just always kept us from attacking the job. We met Michael Booth a year or so ago and knew we wanted to work with him. After kicking around a few ideas, the bot just presented itself as the best thing to start with.

HomeLAN - Will there be support for the official CS bot in multiplayer and if so how will server operators be able to monitor bots on the server?

Michael Booth - The Counter-Strike Bot can be used in multiplayer games. Server operators can adjust the number of bots in the game, their difficulty level, and add or remove specific bots.
So maybe bots can automatically fill up servers without taking up spots now, but this isn't the most exciting announcement in the world since the CS community has had bots for a long time now.

The official bot should go into testing at the end of April over Steam so you can expect it to be good and playable on Steam around mid-May. Question for those in the comments: good or bad move on VALVe's part?

I suppose its not a half bad Idea, but I want to know...

CS 1.6 Test came out in January, its now April and the bots will be playable sometime around Mid-May?

Im all for making 1.6 perfect, but it is taking forever and a day (just the same amount of time it takes to find your way onto rizzuhs 'good' side)

cs bots filling the server would probably be useful but you need to easily get rid of them - ive joined servers before and thought i was doing great just to discover i was playing bots then im like wtf why am i playing bots with a 50 ping when i could be playing them on a lan witha 0 ping fuck this shit im outa here then i went on irc and was like hey i was just playing on a server and it had bots and they were fucking stupid and no other humans were there it was shit and then d0nk3y is like fuck you nubber LMAO and im like ur mom is a dyke and hes like loool yeah ur and im like anyway i gotta make some dinner and walk downstairs and look in the cupboards an dthe fridge and theres nothing in trhere so i go back upstairs and chat in irc for a minutr then im like hmm ill just have those beans and sausage sthen i empty the beans into a bowl and put them in the microwave and cook them then i make a peice of bread and i eat my beans and bread infront of my monitor while im on irc and get bean juice in my keyboard.

bots on multiplayer internet servers are absolutely pointless and as such i'm glad ASE does not filter bot servers.

Great news for the shitty connection CS players though :)

good news for me who is stuck behind a fucking firewall half the year. i use POD bots now but i would be delighted to have better bots to play against. smart move but i hope it doesnt delay 1.6 anymore. hopefully it will just be added through steam after 1.6 is released

yea i read the interview this bot seems like its going to be pretty awsome as far as bots go. It doesn't even need a user to waypoint new maps.

yah thats the main thing i noticed, waypointing is a bitch and i didnt get far before getting tired of it. i just wish they wouldnt solely distribute it through steam cause then i still wont be able to use it since steam doesnt work through firefuckingwalls. they should really put it in an exe too

Haha, nice little story there by garry.

I play against PODbot's every now and then. It's a good bot and I'm eager to see what VALVe can muster up.

The PODbot source code is out there somewhere, maybe VALVe can use it as a template and improve on it.

This news of an official CS "bot" seems to be another move in the step towards creating a viable single-player CS experience. While the majority of people would seem to have a good enough internet connection to play CS ('cause God knows there are enough capable computers out there) it's nice to see Valve desiring to create a good single-player experience. However, I would hope the bots would be a bit more realistic in their play. POD-bot is all too artificial in its movements and actions, which is at the same time challenging and frustratingly unsatisfying.

they planned to for cs:cz and actually had it implemented in the game, but when companies switched and such it got scrapped. this is a fresh start with a different way of "plotting" the bots course through the map compared to waypointing,a nd this sounds much more fluent and easy
