seriously though, game developers need to learn how to do business properly.

can you imagine say, for example, matrix II being delayed as much as condition zero has? Wait, no, that wouldn't happen. I know it's not the exact same thing as making a video game, but making a movie is very similar.

Just get it done and stop pushing stuff back.

I've gotten to the point where I don't even listen to anything about counter strike or hl2. I'm not even gonna trouble myself downloading anymore "exclusive" videos when it's always been a big letdown.

the proof is in the pudding. I'm not mad, just frustrated.

I hear you there. That's why whenever I hear a release date, I usually say, "well, I'll pick it up when it comes out." Don't get over excitied, you'll be disapointed. Always expect the worse, and you'll be happy when something not as bad happens.

I'd say that's really, really wrong. Think about some of the best games in recent days on the console - Halo, ----->GTA 3, GTA:VC, Ratchet and Clank, Sly Cooper, <-----Metroid, Splinter Cell - none of these were made in Japan, and most were made right here in the USA.~Try and geuss what there was wrong! ^_^

Geat Example of a game that was delayed and delayed 'till it had the most amazing graphics anyone has ever seen... Final Fantasy X, I mean the release date was given litteraly less than a week before it was released, and out came a product which destroyed 4 days of my life.

Don't forget a few years ago when it was pushed back, it was pushed back until Christmas 2003, and then it was puched up to now.

I'm not sure what you're talking about.

Halo was of course made by Bungie, now a division of Microsoft.

GTA and GTA:VC were made by Rockstar North (also known as DMA design), based in Edinburgh (Scotland)

Ratchet and Clank was made by Insomniac studios, which I believe is in Texas or Washington.

Sly Cooper was made by Sucker Punch, which is near Seattle.

Metroid was made by Retro Studios, in Austin, Texas.

And Splinter Cell was made by Ubi Soft and developed in the US.

So, um, check your facts, dude.

Retro was actually on a pretty tight leash with Metroid Prime and Halo had obvious production value problems. Whatever point that tool was trying to make is moot. Vague "cultural differences" points aside, you do have to look and compare Miyamoto's team, AM2, Capcom, Namco, and Konami to what? Id the engine makers, Epic the...god knows what, Westwood the RTS maker, and Blizzard. As far as consoles go, an American company making a decent game is still pretty Rare. HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHDOG LOLLERfuck me.

It's fairly obvious that the Jap companies slip up plenty of times, but more often that not it's the exact OPPOSITE problem with releasing too many sequels (Capcom with Megaman 43: BallMan's revenge, Street Fighter vs. Disney's Alladin etc.), but they do seem to be more on the ball as far as releases go. "Hardware differences" can only go so far, and you can damn well bet that Miyamoto's team didn't pull a Valve with Wind Waker's development even though it was delayed. The Japanese companies HAVE to survive by constantly putting out games, whereas it seems like PC devs can get away with ONE game and jack around with the profits from it (Valve). The big console names might do the same, but A) They do seem to be more committed and B) They have multiple teams to pick up the slack.

Which brings us to this: as far as the Japanese dev house Vs. American/European dev house deal is concerned, the actual SIZE of the companies involved is what needs to be recognized, not the "cultural difference" or the "work ethic" or even the fact that a non-Japanese company can occasionally make a good game. Can you really compare a company the size of Id, Epic, Rockstar, or Valve et al with the multiple teams Sega, Konami, Nintendo, and Capcom have? THAT'S where the PC devs are "young", as far as i'm concerned. Experience of those teams is right behind that issue.

                    Fuck it all.

Do you all realize its been 5 years and 5 months since 3drealms first started on Duke Nukem 4 Ever?

Were talkin back in the Quake 2 days! I was really excited, but I'm sure most of you guys were not old enough to play games when Duke 3d came out.
                      Duke says...

                      yea... shake it baby!

Do Gooseman & Cliffe even have anything to do with CS2, or even CS at all for that matter anymore? Not trying to make jokes, I honestly don't know.. Haven't seen any news from cliffe, or any interviews in a long ass time.

I remember seeing an article on CSN a while back that showed screens of new death animations made by Gooseman.

edit: Yea it was that documentary "First Person Shooter" I couldn't find the video that had Gooseman, but I think this is the picture.

I remember when I first heard about Halo. Back then, Bungie was a Mac developer. Then Halo was shifted to dual Mac / PC compatibility. Then it was bought by Microsoft and was slated to be PC only. THEN they talked about Xbox, realized that all games scheduled to come out on it were crap, and shifted Halo to Xbox. Now the PC version is coming out in August (is that right?).
