Note: The picture on the cover looks nothing like the actual game. I wish some people would pay attention to details, god damn.
And yes, SOCOM is shit. I don't like FPS on the PS2 cause you usually HAVE to use the analog, and I hate how they have the left analog below the D-Pad. XBox's Controller (S preferably) is much more comfortable for most games in my opinion.Comment

I hope the XBOX version burns and dies.
Why
1) If it goes main stream, I bet they will forget about us PC guys
2) Could you imagine, going to your friends house and getting owned by his P90 40 feet away and you have a rifle, just cause you can't handle the XBOX's joystick well enough.
3) The "Half Life" experience isn't as great on a console, you can't download new mods.Comment

2) It will suck. Totally!
3)I was perfectly happy with just Blue-Shift for a good six months. Then I went and bought a brand spanking new (at the time) ATI Radeon 8500, which came with HL. It kept me busy for another six
months, finding everything etc. Most consoles last for a few years at the maximum...Comment

Yes but 60hz still flickers like crazy on a computer monitor. By the way the FPS your eye can see hardly matters, its the FPS the computer can "see" that counts. The higher your FPS the less overal lag you get on your side, including the time it takes for the crosshair to settle.Comment

Alright, first FPS, then Jean Reno...
Sure, your eyes can only see roughly 30fps. It's actually not identical all the way across your retina, and your persistance of vision is shorter toward the edges. What this means is, if you look straight at a monitor, it's much more difficult to see the flickering than it is if you look off to the side, and let the monitor sit in your periferal vision.
With a very high refresh rate, your monitor will update more than once in the time that your eye is "developing" the current frame, per se, and the image will be stored in complete form due to POV (the effect of a seen image lasting in visual memory for a very short time). If you slow down the refresh rate to a low enough level, even though it's higher than the 30fps your eyes are taking in, you'll hit certain times where your eye is seeing only parts of the refresh cycle, because it hasn't fully updated during that time.
I'll try to put this in simpler language. Let's pretend that you snap a picture, wind the film to the next position, and take another picture, and repeat. The moments you took the picture are like the "frames" that your eye sees. While you're advancing the film, it really doesn't matter what's happening in real life, because the film will never see it.
So what matters is how long it actually takes to snap the picture, not how long it is between pictures. Your monitor might be able to update 100 times while you're "winding the film" but it wouldn't matter. What matters is that it can draw the complete image at least once in less time than it takes for the shutter to open and close.
So while you may only see at 30fps, you need much higher refresh rates than that to eliminate flickering completely. As far as games go, however, you want yet even higher, as the delay between your actions and the corresponding result in-game is strictly based on your FPS, even if your monitor is refreshing at a slower speed that your video card is driving it. This is also part of why V-Sync is typically a bad idea.-Dice wrote..
Who the hell is "Jean Reno"?serviceoutrage wrote..
Or you may have seen Mission Impossible (the movie - he played the new teammate that was a traitor/helicopter pilot).
hes a french actor(boycott time rednecks), go watch "the professional."
Here's an interesting coincidence. Jean Reno stars in 2 out of the 3 movies that Gooseman says (inside of this article) inspired him while working on CS, and ended up in a videogame that's mentioned on the front cover along with CSX. Is it just me, or is that plain odd?
In a less interesting coincidence, I loved Léon the Professional and Ronin, but didn't like Air Force One at all. So... go Jean Reno! (And since he's a Frenchy, pronounce his first name like in "Jean Luc Piccard" and his last name like reh-NO, not REE-no.
This is all tied into that CSX article in such strange ways that even I cannot fully explain it. Yeah. Kind of like the whole leftie connection. :) Freaks!Comment
